So, Sutliff was providing H&H's Annie Cake with that horse manure smelling tobacco? I was quietly thinking that it was a C&D thing.
Branding is everything.
At one point, Bengal Slices outsold Fusilier's Ration 10:1, despite the fact that they were the exact same blend. Nicer tin artwork, and a recognizable brand name. And it was much better promoted on social media. So, were people buying Dunhill blends, or Dunhill brand names of Blends? The latter would seem to be the case.
I would not be surprised to see some tobacco production moved to STG's Bethlehem, PA facility. Totally a WAG, but I could see them moving some/all of Sutliff's equipment and tobacco stocks there. With tariffs on the horizon, it would make financial sense to keep some production in the US, if for no other purpose than to supply the US market, I think.
Again, a total WAG.
Well, I rarely ever saw the Dunhill blends sell out also, but they were usually at least down to the last tin in the rack. I think that the side Dunhill blends like 3 years, Baby's Bottom, and such were hot sellers that sold faster than the rest. But, maybe your right... Also, The Briary was not a place where you would hear Peterson Pipes discussed with love and admiration. Actually, coming on the forums for the first time, I had a bit of culture shock with the Pete fans. So, maybe that has something to do with it also.
There was always this one little quirky dude that held his Peterson pipe straight out in front of his mouth when he smoked it. Always wore threadbare vintage suits and had a strange moustache. I was told that he was a brilliant professor, but our nickname for him was Duck, because of how he walked and held his pipe straight out in a clench. So, i kind of had it in my mind that Peterson fans were all strange.
Now, of course, I have three Peterson spigots... but I don't have any desire for one of those odd bent ones. No judgment on fellow forum members that do, though. I was just expressing how we looked at Petes at The Briary.
Seeing STG already owns Peter Stokkebye maybe they see Sutliff bulks as just duplication. I'm not saying they are but to a bean counter they would look pretty similar. Maybe pull a couple of the best selling/profiting Sutliff bulks into the Peter Stokkebye family.
STG also owns Lane, which would have been Sutliff's most direct competitor.
I looked into this briefly and it appears that SP and TP have de-listed these. However, the P & C site still show ALL these In Stock. Could it be that SP has decided not to carry these any longer or perhaps will only be available through P & C? (Asking for a friend.)

My guess is that they have stopped selling to other e-tailers and will be the sole outlet until stock is depleted.
Or it’s the time tested P&C backorder system shenanigans.
If I remember correctly, hasn’t Russ Ouellette made mention of ongoing construction related hassles on his podcast? It may be unrelated to production space, but I think that he has mentioned that their location has quite a bit of room for additional development.

That expansion has been in the works since Lane closed its doors.

About 5 days ago I decided “Eh, I’ll pick up a couple pounds of my two favorite MB blends just to be safe”. Fast forward to this morning, and my running tally is a little over 23 lbs of MB/Sutliff/Lane/Cult blends. A bit much, perhaps. Certainly my largest tobacco purchase by a mile. I dearly hope that I panicked for nothing and most of these blends remain available, affordable, and palatable for everyone to enjoy for years to come, but I am not waiting around to find out.
It’s amazing what you think you’ll “need” if it’s under threat of being gone forever. I just got 4 lbs of bulk cherry/raspberry aromatics and I don’t really smoke aromatics, but I figure I might get the urge to blend my own codger smoke some years down the road.
Anyway, I’m done buying now. DONE, I tell ya. Except for maybe a couple dozen more tins of Blood Red Moon.
