Scary! It's like you guys are reading my mind.
It's not us, it's her:

th

Incidentally, she just purchased the villa next to that of the unknown gentleman pictured above who is wearing the Catahoula Coffee hat. She sees large pipes in his future.

Almost immediately, the floral essence blossomed, followed by a deeper, richer note. There was almost an Oriental note to it, well counterbalanced by darker flavors in the low midrange. There was sweetness, but not in a cloying way. Well integrated. Th floral range softened as the smoke progressed, the flavor deepened, but never took a sudden or profound change. The bowl was entirely bite-free. If this was the only tobacco that I had for the rest of my life, I would be a happy man.
That's the equivalent of your describing the gastronomic delight of eating at Pat's or Gino's to us starving fellows in the desert...

Kentucky Dark Fired is much more easily made in the home than latakia, IMO. I can call someone to find out what wood is used in a fire cure. But I have no idea what woods are used in latakia curing, and there seems to be debate even among the tobacconists.

I am preparing to play with the fire curing process this year. But, really, something like latakia just seems too labor intensive to make on such a small scale. But, I have some whole leaf latakia that I will experiment with doing a latakia twist.
But, there are homegrowers who are making their own latakia and perique. FWIW

Cosmic: Thank You for this piece of information, my guess with Kentucky curing process in America the wood used might well be hickory or/and mesquite,? Though in Italy with their Dark fired they hardly are using these aforementioned woods.Greets, Paul

Where do I pre-order "The Cosmic Guide to Growing Stellar 'Baccy"? :)
I'll be waiting for the next blend, "Blowin' (Smoke Rings) In The Wind"
