Soo I don't typically enjoy ranting but this is a pretty big deal for me. As I'm sure some of you have seen, I'm currently on an 8 month deployment here in Japan. During this time, I've missed every holiday since New Year's, my sister's wedding, birthdays, and will also be missing my FIRST Wedding anniversary. And yes I understand that I signed up for it and this comes with the territory. I get that. As you can imagine... I'm pretty freaking stressed out. Now, what keeps me sane throughout all off this? Well that would be Doc's relaxation time. Sitting down, just me and my pipe, having a nice long smoke while I reflect on life and just focus on myself and my family without my devil dogging Marines breathing down my neck. I can't speak for the rest of you, but my ME time means a lot to me.
Now, on to the cause of my sudden frustration. I recently placed an order with Pipesandcigars.com, and I literally just wrote to customer service, that was about $80 worth of stuff. I was super stoked when I clicked "Place Order".

Here's the order:

5- pouch moisteners

1- 3pk of 3 in 1 pipe tools

2- 1oz Dunhill Nightcap

1- 3.5oz Frog Morton on the Bayou

1- 3.5oz Glolden Sliced

1- Escudo 1.76oz (4 tin special $29.70)
What I got back in the mail after USPS butchered it was not that at all. 2 Tins of Escudo, 1 FMOTB, a "Sorry we played soccer with your mail" letter, and a broken heart lol. That's a $50 kick right to the pocket! Please tell I'm not the only one this has happened to. And what, if anything, can I do about this? I know it's not their responsibility.

I also live in Japan but I am not military. Where are you stationed by the way? Anyways I usually use 4noggins and haven't had any problems. They pack all of their stuff really well and use an appropriate size box. Sorry I can't answer your original question though...
*EDIT*- Please refrain from public discussions that pertain to tax avoidance. Nothing good for you or the site can come of it. Thanks. -Jason

Damn that's rough man. I've seen it happen to people in Iraq a few times, but it was mostly several years ago.
I'm with these guys, contact P&C, the customer service is right, they will help you fix it.

No kidding!? I'm currently in Yokosuka. Definitely going to call P&C later today (AM US time) and see what we can do about this. It was sent Priority Mail so I'll look more into it. Guhhh! What a bummer... Fired up that Frog Morton though. WOW! What an awesome smoke! Lol

They also have a couple little secrets to get past paying import taxes but I'm not sure if you have to worry about that.

Please and thanks, let's use some common sense here.

Yeah, call the vendor first, try to get it resolved, rant here as a second resort. Glad that P&C stood by you. 4Noggins will do the same.
USPS claims dept.: OMFG. You do not want to go there. I will not elaborate, just be warned. I ship anything of value UPS or Fed-X.

Well, it sux to have to rely on the government, that's all that I can say.
Your service to our country is very much appreciated by folks here on the list. Too bad USPS doesn't feel the same way. Or maybe it's the Japanese that broke into your stash. That would be really sad. I'll just assume that it was an honest error on the part of the Japanese PO, and that the Prime Minister will be stopping by later on today with some replacement 'baccy for you.
Be sure to get some pix!

Two things: first, P&C came through for you, as we knew they would. Second: Priority Mail is automatically insured for $50 bucks, with the option of increasing the amount. The sender is indemnified for the value of the shipment, so there never was anything to worry about. Sending to APO/FPO addresses is usually fast and secure. Even back in the 60s, when my pipe and tobaccos were shipped to me on River Patrol in the Mekong Delta, I got everything within 2 weeks from the time I mailed out the order, and that was by snail mail because we had no access to online in those days. Actually, I did but it wasn't for that kind of communications.

Anyway, Jeremy, all swell that ends well. You'll get your stuff, and again--thanks for serving. We need our Corpsmen to be happy.

Jeremy:
When you trade with class acts like our sponsors at this forum responsible behavior is the norm. I'm not surprised in the least that P&C is stepping up and making things right. Good for you and good on them.
I gather from your post that you're a Navy Corpsman stationed with Uncle Sam's Misguided Children. One of my twin sons is on his way to Marine OCS this summer and his interaction with USN medical personnel has left him in awe - especially the corpsmen out in the field, "Dad, they're as good as we are and proud of it."
I have so much gratitude, Jeremy, for what you're doing and who you're doing it with.
Thank you.

Glad this turned out relatively well. Sorry you were put through the wringer about it. Is Corpsman school

still at Balboa Naval Hospital in San Diego, or has it moved? Thank you for serving. I was in the Navy

back in the ancient days. My Forums handle is from my ship, MSO 489, MInesweeper Ocean Going,

all Washington Spruce and quite a beauty, though a wild ride off the DMZ when Athens was at war with

Sparta. That ship, built about 1956, is still in service, under a different name, with the Taiwanese Navy.

When I was aboard, it had four Packard (yes, the car company) aluminum block diesels. "Reveille, reveille,

now all hands heave out and trice up. The smoking lamp is lit in all authorized spaces. Now reveille."

I almost want to work for them just so I can be the only employee who knows what the hell is going on and how to take care of things properly. I don't understand the complete lack of care people have for other people's property.
This feeling is for people in general, not just the usps. There are some who are smart and work very hard, and they are hard to find.
Glad to hear P&C is helping you out, hopefully the usps pays up for the insurance on the package as well.

It IS their responsibility. If they do not take care of it make a claim about missing parts of the delivery with your credit card bank. If you paid by Paypal make a claim immediately because they have a time limit. If you handle this right you will lose only time.

Thanks a lot guys! Yea I definitely planned on filing a claim however I DID learn, well at least with P&C, is that if your package is damaged or contents missing they will file a claim for you. Obviously you can't file 2 claims at once so I'm glad I waited on that. Otherwise I would have just gotten a $50 check from USPS and not the $50 worth of baccy and things that I REALLY wanted!
