Congrats Foggy, 61 years is a lot of puffing! I've been smoking since sometime in the summer of 1990, I don't recall the exact day or even month, I just remember that I went into a local drug store and finally bought the pipe and tobacco after looking at them for months during my summer break before my Sophomore year of high school. That means I've been puffing for nearly 27 years.

Age 14.

Corncob pipe.

Borkum Riff, Captain Black but Half & Half was my go-to. I soon stumbled onto Revelation and off I went.

I'm 60 years old.
I'd often try a cigarette every now and then and wondered why and how so many people smoked those nasty stinking things.

Started 1954 @ 12 years old. Family let me smoke in house so as not to smoke cigarettes outside in the streets. Little did they know I started Lucky's @ 10

Most of you are way ahead of me. I smoked my first pipe at Christmas in 1966, just 50 years ago last Christmas. My parents gave it to me mostly because they wanted to keep me from sneaking cigarettes. I still smoked cigarettes occasionally and chewed tobacco, mostly Brown's Mule. I became a full-time pipe smoker in 1975. I've never regretted either my first pipe, or the decision to switch to a pipe exclusively.

My hat is off to you longtime pipe smokers. May all of you have many more happy years with your pipes. I am entering only my thirteenth year smoking a pipe. I will always remember the Brylon Medico Lancer and Middleton's Cherry that lived in a paper bag in the trunk of my car in my early smoking days.

Way to go, Foggy!
I began smoking, like JP, in 1961 and again like JP, took a long break and then back again for good in the early 1990s. So, I always say I'm in my fourth decade of pipe smoking, give or take a few years.

Congrats Foggy.

Bought my first pipe probably 50 years ago & smoked a lot of cigarettes, cigars & other crap for years.

But went to only pipe & cigars about 15 years ago full time exclusively.

Thanks for the great response guys. There is a lot of life on this site. I started smoking cigarillos at age 12. Had trouble coming up with the 25 cents every week, so tried a pipe, liked it more. Yes, Bradley, still driving.

Damn! I love reading these insights into your lives. Threads like these bring us closer together as a community. Foggy, you are an inspiration, for sure. I am in awe. The rest of you long time smokers, kudos as well.
I saw it mentioned earlier that pipes were given to you in an attempt to head off cigs. I agree with that notion. Though I doubt my son will be tempted by them, I am giving him a 7 day set of pipes so that he has all the rebellion he needs, right there. And he will be cool in college. ha ha.

Wow, all.. These are excellent milestones. I wish you all longer, happier lives and full of nice smokes. Also, it is weird that there isn't a single data here that's after my birth year.
