The least informed usually fail to see that taxes invariably trickle down to the least able to afford it.

Too right, Warren.
It always amazes me to hear the old hue and cry to tax the rich. Look at the amount of American dollars offshore that will not be coming home. The middle class always bears the burden of "taxing the rich" in that they work and earn an income. They have no resources to avoid the tax and and less and less resources once they have paid them. The rich will only pay so much and then will either relocate or relocate their money. The poor receive a ravaged portion of what is taken in for social programs. The monster of government is a gross feeder when left to it's own devices. It finally results in a minority of haves and a majority of have-nots.

A cursory search through the papers of the Founding Fathers of America will show their disdain for a bloated government bent on taxation to maintain it's selfish existence.

A politically correct target like tobacco will walk the plank in this voraciously hungry nanny state.

I hate to bump a sore topic for some of us, but these proposed tobacco taxes are still alive and despite my trying to have a dialogue with both my representative and my senator on the issue I see the writing on the proverbial wall.
Not only will we be paying this 40% tax, but they will increase sales taxes and charge us sales tax ON the tobacco TAX.
As soon as my wife retires, we're out of PA. It won't miss us, I'm sure.

That is an interesting concept at the end of your post: if you could live anywhere you wanted (assuming you were not tied down to work, family, friends or finances; sorry that is as close as I could get with the alliteration) where in the world would you live?

My State reps are still holding strong on this proposal. I write them every month to remind them that we are watching this closely. I suggest that all do the same.

75% tobacco tax in NY. Because of that I don't buy pipe tobacco from cup o joes. I was super happy when pipesandcigars moved out of NY to PA.
I'm ready to get the hell out of the north east. It's very hostile to the middle class.
