40% tax increase ?!?! (Pennsylvania)

We're the low hanging fruit for the tax pundits.

Once they declare you a Public Enemy, they can do anything they want to and the scared sheep in the voting booths will nod and smile.

Some of you folks are taking this increase too personally. Think of it as a way of helping out, a contribution for the betterment of . . . ah . . . er . . . of . . . damn! Well, rest assured, somebody will benefit from your moneys. You may not but somebody will.

They are still fighting (I mean discussing) the budget here in PA but also included is raising the sales tax to 6.6% from it's current 6%. So with the 40% plus 6.6% this would effectively end any purchases from any PA cigar or pipe tobacco business for me including P&C. Not that I did not prepare with my current 150 pounds cellared so not a big deal to me on a personal basis.
Just hope it does not go into effect until after the buy 2 gets 1 free H&H sales next month.

We should organize a "Smoke Screen" event in Harrisburg.
Get a couple hundred folks to gather outside the Statehouse, neatly attired, smoking pipes and cigars, cordially handing out leaflets describing why this tax increase is a smokescreen: How much it will cost Pennsylvania in lost sales, closed businesses, jobs and sales tax.
That's an event that the TV cameras will show up for.
Maybe it's already been done.

Can someone please volunteer to do a legislation check? Where is the bill, what does the timeline look like?
I'll be out of town until Wednesday for work, but we should get cracking if we're going to do this. If it ends up looking like a go, I'll start a Facebook page.

I am very pessimistic about the notion of educating the electorate on anything, let alone hidden impacts of taxation. Allowing idiots to vote is what has gotten us into this mess, and allowing idiots to vote is what will keep us in this mess.
