4 Year Old Newminster 400 - Exceptional!

I tried Davidoff flake medallions for the first time recently. The tin note was great, so I was excited. But all I got was hot air from it--absolutely no flavour. Has anyone else had this experience with DFM? I'll sit on it for a while and try again later. But there are better coins out there, in my opinion. Honestly, I think PS bullseye flake is the best coin cut I've tried and it is the cheapest.

I have been smoking dfm for two years and I love it, I have not had any bad experience with this rich tobacco. Perhaps some method failed him. PS bullseye flake I have smoked it on occasion, I have some of this in the cellar to age. But initially I liked dfm more...........You have to smoke a big bowl again.

Ran across a jar of 2/18 Newminster 400 last week and decided to pop it. The almost 4 years have worked well for this blend. I get more citrus sweet and tart from this blend than maple sugar sweetness. The flavors are stronger and more prominent after 4 years with the rough edges smoothed out. Really enjoying this blend, happy I put for our five pounds away. May add a couple more. Kind of reminds me of Wessex Gold Virginia Flake which is another favorite of mine for an earlier in the day smoke.

I kind of screwed up but turns out to be kind of good. When jarring, I just folded the Flake in half and stuffed as much in the jar as I could. They're so tight, all I can do is tear out broken Flake from the top and stuff it in the pipe. Very easy to load and I think breaking the flakes up may release the flavors a bit more. The moisture level is perfect, this lights and burns to a fine ash rather effortlessly.

I see this blend can still be purchased for thirty something dollars per pound. WOW! What a bargain.

for ten minutes or so. are suggesting drying is the problem or the solution?

I am liking other tobaccos more right now anyways. I'll open it again in a year.

I recall when Jim reviewed it, he said it needs about a year to mature. All mine has at least that. Time to open a jar soon.

I haven't tried it yet, but it looks very good, I'll have to put it on the list for the Three Wise Men..............It has a spectacular color.............

It's tin note is great as well.

I think this blend is really sensitive to how it is packed. Mine is new so I'm sure that makes a difference too. If I pack it really loose and not very full it has a lot of flavor. Sweet hay notes and citrus It kind of tastes like mountain dew to me or Sundrop if you're from the south. But if I pack it full and tight it just tastes like hot smoke.
