The Lane 1Q is on constant reorder. Altadis Blue Note is another mellow smoke. If you like 1Q, you'll enjoy Blue Note as well.

I picked up 4 oz of 1Q a couple of weeks ago, and have already gone through well over half of it, so yeah, you could say I like it pretty well. :puffpipe:

This may be a stupid question, but isn't 1Q just the bulk form of one of the Captain Black flavors?

The true test of a successful Blend is repeat orders. The true test of Marketing tobacco is what they have done with 1-Q! There are literally hundreds (maybe thousands) of proprietary pipe shops selling 1-Q under their own Blend Name. It must be good tobacco because there are a lot of repeat orders. It just may be the most successful Aromatic ever. Lane has marketed it as a Proprietary (apply your own name to it) Blend! Smart folks!

I have not smoked it so I am not passing judgement on it. But, these folks are very successful marketers, indeed! Hats off to them, I say!

1Q is the epitome of aromatic pipe tobaccos. It is mild, sweet, and has a phenomenal room note. I have been told by multiple tobacconists that they sell more 1Q than all other tobaccos combined.

"It must be good tobacco because there are a lot of repeat orders. "
I gotta disagree with you there, Captain. Mass appeal is not necessarily a mark of quality. Quite often it's the opposite. Britney Spears sold a lot of records, but that doesn't mean her music was any good. McDonald's sells a lot of cheeseburgers, but I don't think anyone will say they're any more than mediocre. Franzia sells a lot of boxes of wine, but... well, you see my point.
Popularity does not equal quality.

I got this idea from portascat, and it's actually quite good. 50/50 mix of 1Q and Lane Black Cavendish Aromatic (aka BCA)
They go well together, I find the BCA adds a touch more sweetness and rounds out the flavor of 1Q (which I admit is a great smoke on it's own)
Inadvertently I admit 1Q is my 'goto' smoke as well. It's what I smoke when I don't feel like going through all my jars and deciding.
RLP-6 didn't quite do it for me either.

Dont get me wrong I like 1Q but i think it could use a bit more of the sweetness of its flavor and maybe a bit more Vintamin N. I wind up smoking 2 bowls to get the Vitamin N I am looking for. Other than that I love the tobacco.

1Q is a great blend for me, I have been smoking it since the mid 90's. I really enjoy it. :puffy:

I read that recipe somewhere or another my-own-self, so it isn't original to me.
What may be original to me is mixing Lane 1Q half and half with Prince Albert.

there are ALOT of other blends i reach for before 1Q...
despite a valiant effort in the past six months or so, I'm still relatively inexperienced.
I'm sure there's another aromatic out there that would suit my fancy moreso. I just haven't had it yet. :puffpipe:

Here's a few of the names it goes by.

I think a lot of local B&Ms like to name it to match the ambiance of their store.

Yorkshire at my local.

Clever marketing.
If they start to like something they think they can only get at their B&M ... they won't order online for cheaper.
Very clever. and deceptive.

Renaming bulk blends has been a tobacconist practice for years, long before the advent of online ordering. My favorite tobacconist calls it Pure Comfort. I visited a cigar shop with a small pipe inventory the other day and was surprised to see that they called the blend 1Q.
