I am a fan of barrel aged blends by default, so really like PPBBA (prob. my fave PP). I have some Special Reserve from last year but found it to be smoother/more homogenized than regular PP or PPBBA. Nutty Irishman is delicious and a blend that my wife enjoys too (her fave is Sun Bear Black Locust though).

I researched my match last year, and after combing through years of posts I couldn't anything to indicate a preference. He never posted in tobacco threads. So I sent him two tins of just whatever I liked. Nothing special that would impress an uber discriminating super smoker. I plan on doing a little better this year.

I have a complaint, well really a confession … before I joined this forum I engaged in the following shameful pipe and tobacco practices:

1. I broke a pipe as I took it apart while incredibly hot, the stem sheered off inside the briar. (I once had a tendency to smoke the pipe so hot it was scalding to the touch.)
2. I attempted to “modify” Captain Black by adding apple slices to it and sealing it in a mason jar. The result was mold. I may have also added cheap whiskey to it as well.
3. After moving from Captain Black and aromatics, I mixed Frog Morton and Super Balkan together in 2017, because at the time I thought they both “tasted” the same.

That is my confession. May the tobacco gods have mercy.
