    A Christmas Picture 12/14/13

Very nice, sparrowhawk! You can almost see the spirits materializing out of the blowing snow

    Out of Round, Effect smoking?

I had a George Jensen that was pretty out of round. It smoked fine until I dropped it and broke the tenon.

Yes, Virgina, Santa Smokes a Pipe!

Just last night, my daughter was looking at a old picture of her on Santa's lap and asked if it was the real Santa. Mom said no it wasn't. I said, "Of course not! The real Santa smokes a pipe!" My daughter says, "How do you know?" Well, there I was stuck so I flat out lied and said...

    Jirsa Pipes

I have a Jirsa poker. Pretty good smoke, but somewhere along the line the stem has gotten loose. That could be my fault though.

I Would Like To Make You Aware, Of My New Pair Mayfair (pics)

Thanks for the comments guys. They are very nice pieces of wood, especially the straight one. It's a rather large bowl, measuring 1 3/4" deep and 7/8" wide with walls over 1/4" thick. However, it's still light enough to clench without too much effort. Sablebrush, thanks for the info on the...

I Would Like To Make You Aware, Of My New Pair Mayfair (pics)

Well, it took awhile to get around to, but they are cleaned up now. Both smoke pretty well. The bulldog's draw is just a little tighter than what I would like, but not too bad.

Kaywoodie Lot Restoration Pipe #4 (pics)

Thanks for the comments guys! I hadn't realized just how much that spot had improved until I posted the pics. So even though I didn't get the light color I had originally envisioned for it, I'm still really happy with the way it turned out. smokeytay, I saw your post about your first...

Kaywoodie Lot Restoration Pipe #4 (pics)

This is a Connoisseur pot (shape code 69). This one gave me a lot of trouble. I wanted to be able to stain it a nice blond color because it has very beautiful grain. Unfortunately, everything I tried would not remove that horrid spot. I was finally forced to admit defeat because I was losing...

    eBay Purchase: My First Kaywoodie!

Very nice Kaywoodie! I think I had my eye on that one myself. I love most of my Kaywoodies, but cleaning can be a pain. I've found that mini dental brushes are best for getting in the stinger holes.

Anyone Else Have This Problem With Unsmoked Estates?

Exactly how I felt! While I agree freedom isn't a bad thing, freedom without boundary is anarchy. I've never seen anarchy go anywhere good, except maybe to bring a better set of boundaries. A lot of what is good in art may suffer from artistic anarchy?

Anyone Else Have This Problem With Unsmoked Estates?

Lol. True the word holds a certain stature. I think they should be called "Damn Good Stuff" fairs.

Anyone Else Have This Problem With Unsmoked Estates?

Well, alright then, lol. My thought this afternoon, that I decided not to post at the time, was... Why does it even matter if something is art? Isn't being moving, intricate, beautiful, etc. enough without giving it this classification, especially since the classification seems to do more to...

Anyone Else Have This Problem With Unsmoked Estates?

This is exactly why I stopped caring about the art community. The term "art" seemed meaningless to me because it had infinite meanings. "I call it art, so it's art", or "It's not art because I don't like it." The fact that I could creatively line up four shits and install them in a gallery...

Anyone Else Have This Problem With Unsmoked Estates?

My dear sablebrush, we are much closer to agreeing than you think. In fact, I completely agree with what you said. I was by no means trying to suggest that a craftsman cannot also be an artist, or vice versa. What I am saying is that the majority of a craftsman's work is made to...

Anyone Else Have This Problem With Unsmoked Estates?

Captain, glad you took that in the light it was intended. :-) It would always bother me when someone did not use a pot I'd made for its intended purpose. I guess I get a little worked up about it lol I've never understood meer-lined pipes....you don't get to see it color

    Am I Smoking Correctly?

I retrohale also. I don't know when or why I started. I think it came naturally to me. The thing that I'm always reminding myself is to go slow. When you think you're going slow enough, go slower. When you've finally gone too slow, the pipe will go out and you start over. lol

    Askwith Morta Zulu

Absolutely, stunning! I was thinking the same thing about the Dracula resemblance. This has way more class though.
