    Different Ways To Prepare Tobacco

I'd love to hear some of the ways you all "prepare" different types of tobacco. For example, I know some folks will pull enough for a bowl and dry it out a bit. For one of my staple blends, Sutliff Medium English, I will pull about two ounces from the jar and spread it out on a paper plate. A...

    Suggestions for my first English

+1 on Old Dublin. Also, if you want to try several without buying full tins, I recommend Sutliff's bulk English blends. Sutliff Medium English is one of my favorites. Just a thought. Then you can try an ounce of each and see what you like.

    Your Disappointing Blends

Exceeded - Sutliff Medium English, H&H Classic Burley Kake, H&H Prince Andrew. Can't get enough of these.

    Your Disappointing Blends

C&D Big n Burley and Old Joe Krantz - From first light to me tasted strongly of ash like I imagine licking an ashtray might taste. Two Friends English Chocolate - Similar to C&D blends above. Solani Aged a burley Flake - Just bland.

In Praise of Classic Burley Kake

I'm a little surprised to hear about folks getting bitten by CBK. Though I am learning mouth chemistry varies. I tried a Newminster blend I loved the flavor of but couldn't smoke it at all. Tiniest sip bit me bad. I usually smoke burleys in smaller bowls to avoid the mid-bowl bitters.

In Praise of Classic Burley Kake

I really enjoy Chatham Manor as well as Prince Andrew. How cool would it be to get to hang out with Russ O and learn the art of blending?

In Praise of Classic Burley Kake

After over five years of enjoying this hobby, I think CBK may have become my "desert island" blend. This is the only blend I order in 8oz tins. Flavor is great, but not too sweet. Moisture level is perfect. Room note is enjoyable. I love the crumble kake cut. Pipe fills easily, and it burns...

Does Anything Really Smoke Better Than A Cob?

No muss, no fuss... For me it's hard to beat a cob loaded with H&H Classic Burley Kake. I use either a medico paper filter (I cut em in half) or a Savinelli balsa insert. I'm from Missouri too, so... :0) I really love briar pipes, but with my budget these days, I'm grateful for cobs. To me...

Cornell & Diehl Bulk: Big 'n' Burley

I enjoy burley so, but something about C&D burley so doesn't agree with me. From first light I get a very ashy, unpleasant taste. BnB seemed to be the worse. Maybe a mouth chemistry thing. For comparison, I love Solani Aged Burley Flake.

    Stick a Cork In It

If you want to load a pipe and stow it for later, here is an easy, inexpensive way to do it. I save my wine corks, and after about fifteen minutes with my multi tool blade and file, customize them for my pipes. They work great, don't damage the pipe, and you don't have to spend a bunch of...

Show off Your Corn Cobs Here!

I further modified the Patriot I pictured above, and this is the result. I just didn't like the shape of the top on the bowl.

Gut Punch - Insurance - "Use of any tobacco product."

Thanks for the discussion, well wishes and thoughts to consider. My wife stays home with our kiddos, so no dice on her having an alternate plan option. Regarding minimal use, they carefully worded the verbiage to include any use of any kind of any tobacco product, including cigarettes, pipes...

Gut Punch - Insurance - "Use of any tobacco product."

Good discussion guys. Thanks. It is what it is. They can do what they want, and I have to make my choices. I accept that. Does it piss me off? Yep.

Gut Punch - Insurance - "Use of any tobacco product."

Hey Friends - Today I learned that the insurance company my employer uses will add a $50 per month surcharge for use of any tobacco product, beginning Jan 1. They were very careful to include pipes and cigars in the verbiage. This may be the end of the road for me. My family can't afford that...

    She Wet My Pipe

Best thread ever. EVER! Thanks for the much needed laugh. This is one of those stories that will have me randomly cracking up when I think about it over the next few days. I hope all goes well with your pipes. Whew! Great story. :D

Question - Lakelands In Order Of "Essence" Strength

Man I have a cob I used to try Ennerdale - two bowls. It just wasn't my bowl of leaf. After probably 50 bowls of various other stuff, that cob is STILL haunted by the Lakeland ghost. Start with a cob in case they aren't for you.
