Spencer: Those are cool looking pipes!

    Wooden Pipe with Brass

It was used. The bowl was dirty & the brass tarnished. I wouldn't have known it was brass if it wasn't in the description on the tag. I didn't think of it before, but I can see now it's probably paraphernalia pipe. I'll just use it around the house to avoid any trouble. :-) Rico

    Wooden Pipe with Brass

Hey Everyone! I found a nice little pipe at the antique store yesterday. It’s wooden with brass fittings. It’s full length is 5 5/8”. The Stem is 5 ⅛” long and about 3/8” wide The bowl is about 7/8” at the widest part of the wood, the wooden base of the bowl is about 3/4” The brass fitting...

    Removing cigar box stickers

Any tips on how to remove the stickers on cigar boxes? I’ve tried dish soap on the stickers with some success. On boxes I planned to sand & repaint, I just scraped them off after dishsoap, figuring I’d be sanding out any scratches. I’ve also used Skin-so-Soft with some success And a heat gun...

    Making a pipe retort

@ pruss: I had to cut along the side of the tubing to get it on a stem, but I finally did get it on. That problem is solved. The directions I found use a test tube w/ rubber stopper, eye dropper and latex tubing. you make a hole in the stopper and put the dropper tip in it. While I was doing...

    Making a pipe retort

This is why I love this site – always great information! @Cortez: I know the tubing supposed to connect to the stem. Most of my pipe stems are wider than the 3/8-tubing (fishtails?) and the P-lip stem seems to be the only stem that fits in the tubing – but not without a fight. @ tbradsim1...

    Making a pipe retort

I’ve been trying to find the parts for a DIY retort to clean my pipes. The part I’m having problems finding in the right size is the surgical tubing (or latex tubing). Lowes and Home Depot only have 3/8” and everyone else just looks at me funny. I’m thinking I’ll be needing about 1” to 1...

Now the the Big Question: How do I remove the bowl? Rico

    Cleaning Calabash acquisition

OK, now I'm confused. I've been reading and some say take off the Meer bowl and clean inside the gourd. Others say you don't have to I did get it from an antique shop, so I don't know it's condition. Do I clean inside the gourd or do I leave it?

    Cleaning Calabash acquisition

I have cleaned/sterilized the stem & it came out great. Haven't done anything to the rest of the pipe. Waiting while I do some research. It is a gourd pipe, so I want to be very careful with what I do. Anyone have any suggestions or tips? Rico

    Cleaning Calabash acquisition

Hi shutterbugg: Ya, I read somewhere that you can't use the salt/alcohol bowl sweetening method on Meer. If I I'll post the reference link. Was it a fatal or was it repairable? Rico

    Cleaning Calabash acquisition

I just acquired my first Calabash pipe from a local antique store. I’ve read that you’re supposed to take off the Meer bowl to clean the gourd. I’m kinda afraid to take it off cause I don’t want to break the pipe. I was wondering if I could use a retort to clean it? Rico

    Steel Warrior Pipe Knife

nachman, Maybe it was patented in 1907? I haven't been able to find much on it yet. But I do remember 1907 on the label. Rico

    Steel Warrior Pipe Knife

My latest antique store acquisition is a “Steel Warrior Pipe Knife” with Bone scales and silver bolsters. The show side has ‘Steel Warrior’ printed on blade, at base of blade, and emblem inlaid into scale. The bottom of blade on obverse is stamped ‘440 stainless’. Tag at store dated it 1907...

    Xikar pipe lighter

I prefer the Xikar Pipeline lighter. It's a mechanical one with a flint. It doesn't always do so well in the wind, but neither does the Resource. The Pipeline can handle cold where the Resource can't. If it gets below 50 degrees outside, I can't leave the Resource out on a table, I have to put...

Smoking in Public - Best Experiences

Bump a year later ... Normally, I'd just smoke at home and hadn't really given any thought about smoking anywhere else. Until about 2 months ago, when I read Kevin's smoking in public and pipe AMEX (don't leave home without your pipe)articles. After that, I'd bring a couple pipes with me...
