Cleaning some pipes on a rainy afternoon. Here's some shells: Nothing particularly collectible or older than me. Just good, solid smokers, like Dunhills should be.

    Resting a Pipe

It helps to remember that pipe smoking is a dying art and try to learn from the past. Smoking a pipe was much more common 50 or even 100 years ago, and plenty of old timers smoked a single pipe all day every day for their entire lives. On the other hand, there were also dozens of different "pipe...

***What Are You Smoking, October 2023?***

Nope. A little before my time, but I had heard of the strip before. It was my nickname at work for years. When I first started working, the old crank that handed out nicknames in the engineering bullpen christened me with that moniker because I smoked a pipe or chain smoked cigarettes, and the...

    Bent or Straight Stem?

Went to straights 100% when I was on the road driving for several hours a day. Had too many incidents of smacking a bent pipe into my shoulder and nearly breaking a pipe or teeth when turning my head quickly in traffic.

    Is it Real Amber?

Here's an old WDC meer with an amber stem. If I remember correctly, you can do a hot needle test on amber similar to what's done with ivory. Touch a hot needle to a hidden spot, and smell the little bit of smoke that wafts up. Being a resin, real amber has a definite pine smell. Plastic smells...

    Smoking Indoors

My dad smoked a pipe all day, every day until he died. My mom smoked cigarettes until she was 80. Until 1988 or so, I worked in an office with 3 cigar smokers, half a dozen cigarette smokers, and me smoking my pipe all day long. I guess, by rights, I should already be dead from "secondhand smoke".

Uh... This Is A Mistake... Right?

Check out their other items. They have that $999 price on a bunch of other stuff like a single bottle of butane or a MM cob. Just fishing, I guess.

    I love Escudo

Escudo is a true staple for me. I love trying new and different blends, but every time I fire up a bowl of Escudo, I wonder why I even bother smoking anything else.

    My Kind of Dunhill

    Are Pipes Getting Heavier?

Weight is one of the first things I look at in an online listing. 50 grams is my upper limit on pipes. I only have a couple that are over that, and wouldn't consider buying anything heavier.
