If you mean the band on the stem, I'm not sure how to tell whether it is nickel or aluminum. As for the inlay on the stem, I can tell that it is not painted on, bat rather cut from a separate rod of material and inlayed into the stem.
This is a good looking pipe and a great smoker too! I just have no idea what it is. The only markings are "CHAMPION DELUXE" over "ALGERIAN BRIAR" on the bottom of the shank. Any help is much appreciated!

Thanks, grizzley, but I am afraid to really do much on my own. My largest consideration is sending this off to somebody, but I have know idea what someone might charge for this.
The rim on the bowl of my James Upshall G-grade is burned pretty badly. Does anyone know if this can be repaired? Maybe sanded and refinished? I would greatly appreciate if someone on the forum is able to repair this, or if someone knows of a good pipe repairman.
