The rim on the bowl of my James Upshall G-grade is burned pretty badly. Does anyone know if this can be repaired? Maybe sanded and refinished? I would greatly appreciate if someone on the forum is able to repair this, or if someone knows of a good pipe repairman.

As you can see, it is a beautiful pipe and definitely worth getting repaired (if possible)!

All things are possible, but not everything is easy. Is the top portion flat or is it sloping inward? If flat, then 10 seconds on a belt sander would remove the burn. Fixing the finish would be another issue. A quick google search shows that this pipe is definitely not in the Dr Graybo range, so this fix would be a BAD idea. There are lots of guys that restore pipes on this site. One of them would be much better qualified.

well, the burn is so bad the briar is actually a bit misshapen around the inside of the rim. You can kind of see this in the first picture.

+1 on what irishsmoker said with the saliva. My grandfather gave me a pipe a while back and the whole rim was black. I used an old flannel shirt, spit on it a few times, and commenced to rubbing for the next hour. If that doesn't work you could try a bit of alcohol before you consider sanding it. Yes, the alcohol may strip the stain but if you sand it you will probably have to refinish it anyway.

Thanks, grizzley, but I am afraid to really do much on my own. My largest consideration is sending this off to somebody, but I have know idea what someone might charge for this.
