    The Bottom of the Bowl

I normally dump the ash around the midpoint of the bowl to help with lighting the tobacco. As most have said, proper tamping technique and gentle puffing should usually do the trick. Also, I say put to use the many techniques and morsels of information given on this forum. You will eventually...

I Took SWR For a Walk Last Night

SWR is one of my "on the go" smokes. It is nothing fancy, but just plain ole baccy. I happen to enjoy it very much!

    Chinese/Generic Pipes?

Stay clear away from a pipe like such. It will only yield poor smoking qualities.....

How Long Does Your Average Bowl Take to Smoke?

It variously depends on what pipe I am smoking, but if I were to estimate, I would say anywhere between 45 - 60 minutes.

I'm a Very New Pipe Smoker

Welcome to the world of pipe smoking! :D I concur with most members on the forum, order yourself a couple of cobs. They are simple yet eclectic pipes. Mark Twain was an avid fan of the corn cob or as he affectionately referred to them "A Missouri Meerschaum." Keep an eye out on...

    Hearth and Home

I have tried quite a few of the non-aro's they produce and they are all excellent! The only Aromatic I have tried is Classic Burley Kake and it is a good, straightforward aromatic. I imagine the blends you purchased will be excellent aro's considering the other wonderful blends they produce.

    Building a cake...

As many have stated, I would just pack the pipe with a good blend like SWR or Carter Hall and puff away. They will ensure a good cake is formed in the bowl of your pipe, but of course, each smoker has his own preferences......

    Hilson Vintage Pipes

PipesandCigars.com recently added a small amount of Hilson Vintage Pipes to their website. It seems as if they were originally a European brand of pipe, but around the 1980's the brand was bought by an American business. Do any of you own one of these pipes and if so, what is the overall...

    Shelby Foote Pipe Tobacco

I plan on attempting to recreate the pipe tobacco that the late Shelby Foote, Historian and Novelist, smoked. I know he used a blend that consisted of Burley, Latakia, and Perique, while mixing in a Mild Aromatic(Supposedly Edward G. Robinson). Any suggestions as to what brand of Tobacco's I...

    4noggins Britt's Balkan

Anybody ever smoked 4noggins, Britt's Balkan Blend? It intrigues me that they have married together Orientals, with Latakia and Turkish on a base of Red, Bright, and Flake Virginia's, with a slight hint of Vanilla.
