Nathan "CrashTheGrey" Davis on Radio Show of May 7, 2024

@crashthegrey the powers that be have swooped in and saved me from my swipe errors. Your prices are no longer aggressively "adorable." 😇

    Kaywoodie Handmade Rhodesian Restoration

What a great piece! Dignified and distinguished. It looks like it fought in 'Nam.

Nathan "CrashTheGrey" Davis on Radio Show of May 7, 2024

My apologies to all (and especially @crashthegrey) for my not having proofed my post. Swipe fucked up my ability to properly English but I've requested an edit. Post was edited at at 1:02:03 PM PT on Friday, May 10, 2024

    My Plum Pudding Cigar Review

In its defense, I exaggerated for effect and due to the widespread recognition of those names. For accuracy's sake I'd have specified Laura Lynn buns and mayo, but only folks in driving distance of an Ingles would catch my drift.

A Visit To America’s Oldest Pipe Tobacco Company

You went to Sutliff and didn't leave with any Sutliff? 😲

    Coatings on Chinese Pipes

You can go as high as you want, but anything above 400 is considered polishing. You can go up to 2000 if you want, and I have done it myself but it's a tad excessive. However, if you want to buy one of those sets off Amazon that just comes with a sheet or two of each, you could delve into the 4...

    Coatings on Chinese Pipes

And no matter what wood it is, if you sand back up to 600 in steps after you sand at 220, you can still slap a coat of Danish oil on it and have a fine looking pipe.

    Coatings on Chinese Pipes

As a new pipe maker, I'm very familiar with this concern. I finished my first dozen pipes or so with nothing but food grade Danish oil because I didn't want to risk contaminants bleeding through. At this past Vegas show, I was fortunate enough to pick several more experienced brains than mine...

What Cigar Are You Smoking? 2024

    Plum Pudding (my review here)

Nathan "CrashTheGrey" Davis on Radio Show of May 7, 2024

[Edit by proxy] Another fantastic interview! I had the pleasure of meeting Nathan at the Las Vegas show and having a conversation with him and a few other guys about billiards, the history of the shape, and its appeal. It was a conversation that drastically influenced how I've seen both pipe...

    Sun bear 2024

From what I understand, honey harvest season happens in late summer. Jeremy is quite particular (as he should be) in using high quality, fresh honey, so it will likely always be packaged just as summer is headed out.

    Opening A Tin? Show Us!

I just tried (and reviewed) the SPC Plum Pudding Special Reserve Robusto yesterday, so today felt like a good day to crack a tin of the good stuff. Barrel Aged version, smoked in my signature pipe.

    My Plum Pudding Cigar Review

I was excited to try this cigar from the moment of its announcement. Plum Pudding is easily my go-to English blend and I was eager to try something that felt novel in the cigar world too. And while (spoiler!) I ultimately liked it okay I guess, I don't feel that this cigar captures the platonic...

A DTM/Orlik Question for Those in the Know

In native tribes (the first to smoke), certain plain pipes were had by the many, while specially and intricately carved pipes were for the few. The same held true in the 18th century of British officers versus their soldiers. Fast forward to the 20th century and Dunhill stores would ran your ass...

A DTM/Orlik Question for Those in the Know

Indeed, and that tends to be why they're my favorite. Hot pressed flakes are the best, but I also love coins and was hoping for some more traditional types. That's why I was disappointed in finding out that it was the same one who makes everything else, essentially.

    Danish Import - Black Label

(Author's note: What I sampled was a 16-year-old - near voting aged - tin of a bygone tobacco. Take this review with a grain of salt, as it's for the enjoyment of the writing and its reception, rather than the accuracy of its criticisms.) I didn't expect to win the auction. But sometimes I bid...

    Opening A Tin? Show Us!

The most recent occurrence I'm familiar with was an interview not so long ago that began with an ask the blender. I can't say for sure when it was, but I know it's from the last few months.

    Opening A Tin? Show Us!

There's also what Jeremy talks about... different leaves enter into the perique barrel unless otherwise specified. C&D certifies 100% St James Perique leaves enter their fermentation barrels, but that seemingly isn't true of other brands and makes. I wouldn't be surprised if that metric didn't...

    Opening A Tin? Show Us!

Roughly 2014/2016 vs 2022. Lung enough to asking for some coloration but not quite to this level.
