    Creepy/interesting story

I'm taking this as a GREAT sign that there is pipe smoking on the other side, I'll bet all of the discontinued blends we would like to try or smoke again are available, like Balkan Sobranie for example. :puffy:

The Good Ole Days, When Tobacco Wasn't Evil

No smoking in theaters here in my time, it was a fire regulation, had to go to the lobby. I do remember ashtrays built onto grocery carts, and the arms of barber chairs. I also miss the great cigarette commercials...Chesterfield 101, a silly millimeter longer. I always liked the schtick Danny...

How did Macarthur pack his pipe?

He was a General...that's what Orderlys are for. "Here son...pack this for me."

    Old Movies

This is a bit off topic since you're talking about old movies but, did anyone catch the latest incarnation of Moby Dick on Encore the past couple of nights? I really like the pipe Capt.Ahab (William Hurt) was smoking throughout. Wonder what brand of tobacco goes good with chasing white whales.

I was going to say it looks like he finished a bowl of Mixture 79 or Velvet (shudder). That is a great looking pipe though.

    smoke rings

I'll blow one every so often, haven't done it as much since my niece grew up, she used to love to watch me smoke a pipe. Now I'm trying to figure out how to blow smoke ships like Gandalf, 8O haven't got it yet and of course doubt if I will, but enjoy pondering it with a bowl of baccy.

    McClellands Three Oaks Syrian

I've been enjoying the McClelland Blue Mountain that won the peoples choice in the Sobranie throwdown. Of course they also have the Frog Morton series, all great tobaccos.

    Paraphernalia?

Did like the idea about free Dunhills and/or free tobacco though. :D

    Unclearthur show some pics

How's this for a montage, start with a photo of the briar block, then some photos along each step until the final one showing the finished pipe.

    The Right Way

thekiltedchaplain.....your welcome. Cyndi......the left way, probably best reserved for English blends, the right way for American.

    A pipe smoking adventure

So your house has a gen-yu-wine poop deck, you're the envy of sailors everywhere. The smoking lamp is lit.

    Peterson Molly Malone

There is no way I can afford that, but I can dream. I really like the grain shown on the smooth, but then I like the grain on all of the Peterson smooths I've seen, including the ones I do own. I like the sandblast and rustic as well, as long as I'm dreaming, I'll dream I've gotten one of each...

Pipe Smoking in the American Southeast in the Summer

How's it going fullbent, you would think in a state with such a large burley production there would be more of us.

    The Right Way

:laughat:Here's the clip thekiltedchaplain is refering to: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jwdI6dKtd34&feature=youtu.be That's a hoot, makes you wonder what kind of "tobacco" they're smoking.

    when did you start smoking?

I was 19 and going to "A" school at Great Lakes in 71, bought a Grabow and some Paladin Blackcherry at the Navy Exchange. The pipe smoking has lasted all these years, the Paladin didn't.

    What don't you Recommend?

I tried Mixture 79 years ago and didn't care for it, but the worst I've ever tried was Velvet, the stuff actually smelled and tasted like play-dough, couldn't finish the bowl it was so bad.

    Frank Method

I'm waiting to be able to use the "Scotty" method; measure out some tobacco, beam it into the bowl and take it as usual from there.

Pipe Smoking in the American Southeast in the Summer

Here in the Ohio River Valley (Louisville Kentucky) summer can feel like Guam, but I get to smoke in the house so no problem with English style blends in the air conditioning. When I go out though I will stick to my OTC Burley blends, PA or CH.
