    PAD Hitting Hard Lately

I haven’t yet caught the bug in my two years of smoking. I’ve got ~6 non-cobs but smoke one, and never really think about it. It’s nice, and I hope it stays that way.

    Someone Else's Underwear

Given some of your past posts, puff, I expected you to say you wore your girl’s underwear. I find other people’s socks in my laundry often—I wash at a laundromat—but no underwear yet.

What Kind of Pipes do you Like and Why?

I’ve got ~6 non-cobs of different shapes. I’ve been using my sav 904 flambé exclusively for the past months, though. I like it because it’s a good large-side-of-medium size and has a neat shape, elegant but rugged.

    The Strongest Blend You’ve Tried

Are you retrohaling? 985 is pretty strong, so I’m wondering whether you’re underwhelmed just because you’re not retrohaling. Many of us taste/smell virtually nothing unless we retrohale.

Glad I Quit Collecting the 904s

I recently got the flambé 904. I think the shape is a little less bland than that of the pipe in the first pic in the OP. But The curves are indeed less drastic than the old versions. I’ll probably try to get my hands on an older one, since I’m liking even this version

    Enjoying Latakia? Anyone?

I went from Latakia to VA and now back to Latakia. Englishes with some orientals is what I like.

    Joe Lankford passing. RIP

Original Plum Pudding was my “Aha” moment blend. I am grateful to him for the experience. I remember fondly how special and interesting it tasted, and how it showed me what pipe tobacco can be.

    Slow lighting

I do this with any blend, Nolan. I’m smoking mostly EMP and OGS lately, though. Not noticeably moist, but not crispy dry. Cheers.

How do You Decide on New Pipe Purchases?

Having relatively few non-cobs so far, I just want to expand my collection to include all the basic categories of pipe that are interesting to me. On the horizon for now are a nice sandblasted and a meerschaum.

    Slow lighting

The usual lighting method is quick: light the bowl enough that the flame sustains itself—whether done in two steps, with a first charring light, or not. I like to avoid tamping and lighting the bowl fully until a good bit of the top layer has been smoked. I light lightly, smoke a bit, let it go...

Used to Love Lane's Burley Lite w/o Bite...

You never buy online? There’s usually no shipping cost for orders more than $95 or 99 at the main sites, smokingpipes, pipes and cigars. It’s a great thing, selection and cost -wise.

    Buying tobacco

The reselling is all part of the companies’ scheme to grow their reputation. The reselling makes the products seem in way greater demand, and thus, as way greater quality, than a mere sell-out of the products would ever do.

    Debate : Fine White Ash

I get it most with G&H blends. Fine white ash feels like a sign of ‘efficient’ tobacco— as if your tobacco doesn’t consist of stuff you’re not actually getting to smoke. So it’s satisfying in that way. But flavor trumps all, so I ash color/grain doesn’t affect my choices much or at all.
