    Timely Advice

Don't put your wrist watch in the washing machine haha. I completely forgot it was in the pocket of the shirt I'd been wearing this morning. Luckily it was just a cheap old Avia that I got from eBay to use indoors and not my Longines. To cap it all, when I took the shirt out of the machine the...

    Self Projection

When I left school in 1967 I worked as an apprentice car mechanic. Anyway. one afternoon there I was working away, when I felt an intense pressure building up inside me, and I sensed, but didn't see, a golden beam of light outside of the garage. Obviously I wasn't the only one experiencing this...

    Public Enemy Number One

Public Enemy number one Is it not political correctness ? Do we have to be told what to say and think ? I've got on perfectly well all my life just being normal.

Giant Replica Of Morrison jeremiah's Pipe Descends On Hyde Park

The London Herald newspaper reports that a giant replica of Morrison Jeremiah's pipe has descended on Hyde Park. This remarkable artefact, estimated to be almost a mile long and 1200 ft high, dwarfs the nearby Marble Arch. The shock of the landing was felt across London. J.W. Blenkinsop of...

    The Art Of Communication

I'm gradually learning the art of communication on this forum. I don't say that I've mastered it yet. So many subtleties to be observed.

    Nasty Lemon Tang

I have come to notice that tobaccos manufactured by Kohlhase Kopp all have a lemon like tang. similar to a honey and lemon throat lozenge. The taste lingers in my mouth for hours. I find it very off-putting. It is present even in tobacco that I've jarred for 6 months, and then left open for a...

    Calling All Hobbyists

I must admit that I predominantly smoke a pipe as a way to get nicotine. The flavour is a big bonus. Of course, there are hobby like aspects even for a non hobbyist - the ritual of preparation, the collecting, the cleaning, the cellaring etc. I would like to know if you started as a hobbyist...

    A Sober Realisation

Over the past couple of days I've been thinking about how many people I've ever seen actually smoking a pipe. I would say about twenty here iin England, and all of those when I was a boy. In 1966 I stayed in Germany for 3 months and saw about 20 people with a pipe. But in the last 50 years I'm...

    Gunge On Rim Of Pipe

I have a Tommaso Spanu pipe, a flare root, red canted briar. I've had it for about a year, and have smoked something like 100 bowls in it. Today I went over the park for my usual early afternoon smoke, and halfway through I noticed some kind of resin or gunge on the rim. I managed to scrape it...

Good Straight Out Of The Box

My Ashton Cherrywood Quaint, which I've had for three months, smoked really well from the word go, and has improved stage by stage. I've had a couple of bowls out of it today which were totally sublime. That is what prompted me to post this thread. The only other pipes I have that smoked well...

    Good Health News

Since contracting pneumonia about 10 years ago, I have been plagued with low oxygen levels often in the low 80s even. But I've been feeling a lot better the last couple of weeks. Just taken a reading, and my levels were 96. Hope it stays that way because that's pretty good for a chap of my age.

    Nicotine Strength

Strange isn't it how people react differently to the same tobacco. Example being that for years I've avoided Brown No 4 rope. I guess put off by the things I've heard about it. Anyway today I received my first tin, and after having a good laugh at the appearance of the contents, I cut myself a...

    Favourite Female Singers

Although I'm not a fan of Italian opera and struggle to listen to one all the way through, I have to confess a deep admiration for Maria Callas. That voice cuts into my soul and tramples all over my emotions, as if I were a helpless cringing dog, fit only to be teased and manipulated by that...

    Weather Forecast

Several years ago here in the UK, presumably at the taxpayers expense, the meteorological office bought a computer to predict long-term weather changes. It cost them, or us 93 million pounds. They then said that from then on we would have perfect summers with hardly a cloud in the sky. Of...

What Is Your Favourite Room Note ?

Of course it's not as important as the smoke itself, but it does extend the pleasure of the experience. For me it's Capstan Navy Cut ready rubbed. When I go back into my room it smells as though ten people have been in there smoking roll-ups, and as an ex cigarette smoker I find that honest...

An Easy Way To Get An Air Pocket

It really is easy. Just load up the pipe anyway you want to the bottom of the bowl leaving about quarter of an inch from the top. Put two fingers over the bowl with a slight gap between them, blow.hard into the stem. There you have it, the tobacco rises up, result - air pocket. The idea came...

Estate Pipes Nice To Look At, But-

I see Estate pipes that I like on eBay and I have to buy them, but the problem is I smoke them a couple of times and then put them on a rack to display, and the only pipes that I smoke on a daily basis are artisan- made ones that I bought from new. maybe it's because they are the only pipes that...

Cordon Bleu Cooks. Why Do They Have to Be So Good ?

I quite like Illy coffee beans, medium roast. My sister is a Cordon Bleu cook, she uses exactly the same beans, pot and method as I do. Her coffee tastes divine, while mine tastes somewhat mundane. I ask myself how this can be, but I know if you were to put Lewis Hamilton and me in the same off...

If You Smoke Aromatics Is It The Tobacco You're Enjoying ?

I've been asking myself this question, and have decided to lay off Aromatics for a few months or maybe for good. Enjoyment is what pipe smoking is all about and, hey, I'm not here here to stop anyone from enjoying what they like. I just thought well, I like a good plain tobacco, what's all...
