In my experience, it's fairly easy to get stain off of bamboo. Usually it's when I'm staining a bamboo shanked pipe and get just a little on the shank, so I'm cleaning it immediately after it hits the bamboo. Tung Oil on its own doesn't really dry. When you use it on an open grained wood, it's going to soak right into the pores and so that's not a big deal. Red is problematic on a Smooth finish. Some briar accepts it well, and some just doesn't. It's whatever particular ingredient they use to create the red color that causes the problem. Pipe prepping ahead of time
When I drove trucks, I would generally load a few pipes before I began driving for the day. I liked to smoke flakes because the truck bouncing over potholes all day could shake the tobacco loose, but flakes stayed nicely folded in the bowl.- lonestar

Man I like that pipe ! Sometimes you mix and match ideas and they just work. Four Square bowl and a round shank with MILITARY MOUNT ! It's like two great tastes that taste great together. I think it's the Military Mount that really makes this work for me. Good stuff all the way- lonestar
