My situation is such that I usually have much more idle time indoors than opportunities to go outside and smoke. And it’s kinda fun to look at my pipes and jars and think about what I want to smoke next. So I generally have at least one pipe loaded up with something and ready to go. Sometimes I don’t get to a particular loaded pipe for a couple of days, maybe a week, but with most blends it doesn’t seem to hurt anything.

Sounds like it makes sense and if you like it then it's worth it but for me this is contrary to why I smoke a pipe in the first place. I like the ritual of slowing down packing the pipe, taking my time getting it ready just how I want it, To me its all one process. I can pack a fresh bowl just fine even in my lap driving 80 mph down a dirt logging road, if I'm too busy to pack a pipe I'm too busy to smoke a pipe. For me my pipe habit is all about slowing down and not getting anxious, if I started preloading my pipes I would feel like a crackhead all over again and would have to quit smoking them. To me pipes are a habit that I can have and not abuse and if it becomes more then that I would have to stop or I might as well start drinking and doing cocaine again.

I'd pack maybe a one pipe beforehand, problem for me with having a few pre-packed pipes is that that, although a bit slower than in the open air, the tobacco will dry up in the bowls. I also don't find packing to take too much time, but that depends on the blend and sometimes every few seconds can be useful when you're in a hurry :)
