Markus Fohr Old German Clays - oldest model?

I was just relaxing, watching my kids swim and smoking my Old German Clay pipe. I was looking the company up to remind myself more about the history, and mention is made in every description that some of the molds are from the 18th century. I tried to do some research but couldn’t find any link...

    Merchant Service Table Pipe

I imagine it’s a similar experience. Is it just a gimmick, or does it actually fill the gap that you had in your pipe collection? In other words, do you find its design useful?

    Merchant Service Table Pipe

Due to my intermittent, occasionally persistent PAD condition, I’m intrigued by this table pipe. Curious to see if anyone here has purchased one, and if so, what has been your experience of smoking it? https://merchantservicepipes.com/shop/spez-table-pipe-2/?v=7516fd43adaa

    Peterson Barley Spigot Release

Right you are! Thanks for the reminder. Here it is. Not same lighting, etc., but it’s something. I do notice the difference up close.

    Peterson Barley Spigot Release

How is yours smoking? I got a 128 and it’s clearly one of the best Petersons (and pipes) I own from a smoking point of view. It’s looks have grown on me as well. What’s your take?

    Peterson Barley Spigot Release

i was deep into was deep into my most profound PAD during peak COVID with an irresistible combination - more funds due to working from home (less gas) and a little bored. Out of that came this purchase. In non-PAD episodes, I may have passed on it, but if I did id pass up on something special...

    Old German Clay Pipe...

I’ve had them at times dipped in some kind of gloss paint, I think. That prevented the lip from adhering to the stem. I don’t smoke mine often, but when I do I just pay the feeling no kind and keep going.

    Wither Hacker?

Yes, possibly, but if he wanted to be in, I think he’d be in. I think I got my answer. Newcombe’s book may be outdated, but he’s still in the conversation. I think Hacker likely excused himself. Besides, as mentioned, he’s still a going concern in other lifestyle goods.

    Wither Hacker?

It seems likelier that he moved past it and not vice versa. I see no evidence that he was rendered obsolete through a series of failed efforts to remain relevant. He still seems to successfully traffic in other quality consumer goods like liquor and cigars, just not pipes.

    Wither Hacker?

I believe most such books would be outdated, including his. My question was more aimed at why he’s not part of the new research and conversation borne of the internet age. Your answer that he moved away from pipes and toward other items might explain it. The book seemed very much a product of...

    Wither Hacker?

I understand. I can’t say I followed his advice too closely either, but I did appreciate at that time of precious few available resources his history of pipes and tobacco, overview in f different makers, and some stab at making a successful attempt to smoke. I can’t say I ever found his honey...

    Wither Hacker?

About 25 years ago I wanted to know more about pipe smoking, so I bought a book called The Ultimate Pipe Book by Richard Carlton Hacker. I read it cover to cover more than once, and then years went by where I was only a very casual pipe smoker. In the last two years I’ve become a daily smoker...

    Hello from Latakia-esque California

The whole state is on fire. I'm near Sacramento and ash is falling here too. It's better today; yesterday I didn't go out and smoke it was so thick and heavy.

    Hello from Latakia-esque California

That's the plan! We're about 18 months out from making that a reality. All we need to do is settle on a place.

    Tobacco Log Book

I've been working on a journal for my own purposes as well. I'm very new to the concept of cellaring (oh, let's callit what it is, hoarding) and would like to have a reference for the years to come that remind me of my impressions. Like someone else said, I only smoke about once a day, so...

    Hello from Latakia-esque California

I write this from California, where today the fires are sadly not confined to a briar, meerschaum, or clay bowl. I grew up in Northwestern Washington, moved to California in 1994, and have been plotting my exit for the last 15 years. It's been spectacularly unsuccessful. My first Pipe was a...
