    What are You Reading Now?

The most underrated of the bunch. I loved it.

    Burning Tobacco in Wider Bowls.

Well, depending on what I put in the bowl, I often exceed 30 minutes. Broken flake or rubbed out flake or chunky mixtures all last well past 30 minutes. Some blends burn fast as hell no matter what pipes I use for them...like Presbyterian, or any other fine ribbon or shag. Those blends, I'll...

    Burning Tobacco in Wider Bowls.

I'm glad it's not just me and that you found a remedy that works for you. And yes, it is a straight grain. I'll give your suggestions a try.

    Burning Tobacco in Wider Bowls.

It works really well for ribbons and mixtures. Those cuts are what I smoke most.

    Burning Tobacco in Wider Bowls.

I don't want to say yes because that's all relative depending on what size bowl you're normally smoking out of. I have a few deeper bowls like the Nording freehand that has a 1.9 inch depth that holds quite a bit more tobacco, but I find the burn hotter and it gets bitter by the bottom third and...

    Burning Tobacco in Wider Bowls.

Yeah, I have the 320 dedicated for English blends and some English aromatics and it really is a great pipe. Minimal relights, easy draw..the whole works. One my favorite shapes. Only down side for me is it's tricky running a pipe cleaner through the stem of the pipe during cleanup. But that can...

What are You Listening To? ~ September 2022

My favorite band. Good to see Geddy and Alex the other week in London. That was great.

    What Do You Do?

Spent 27 years as a news photographer and photo editor. Uber driver now....lol. Don't miss the long hours and low pay in the news business, but it was a fun way to spend my youth and a great way to meet women.

***What Are You Smoking, Sept. 2022?***

Today so far..I've smoked a bowl of Lane LL-7, a bowl of Sutliff B.S.O.M., and I have some Samuel Gawith Full Virginia Flake drying for later tonight. Good day for me, good day to all.

Is The East Coast As Good As They Say?

LOL... that's exactly what I was hinting at.

Is The East Coast As Good As They Say?

That's what I'm looking forward to myself. Far horizons and big sky. You're 100% right about everything being smushed together and too close. I never quite realize how clostrophobic a feeling you get around here, until I'm on top of a mountain somewhere and can see for miles. Typically you can't...

Is The East Coast As Good As They Say?

Funny, I think it rather proves the opposite. :)

Is The East Coast As Good As They Say?

Dude, that's pretty much how I feel. 100% agree. My salad days were the 80s and 90s maybe to around 2004, but that would be stretching it. And I get the iron stomach part too. Eating and drinking your way across the city, getting home at 4 a.m. or later and being in work by 9. That was awesome...

Is The East Coast As Good As They Say?

Shenandoah Valley is stunning in the fall. Great part of the East Coast for sure.

Is The East Coast As Good As They Say?

I think Katz Deli is on Houston Street, pronounced HOWston in case you do want that Pastrami sandwich. You'll probably balk at the price, but don't. Their pastrami ruined all other pastrami for me, it's that good and the sandwich is like a pound of the hot stuff piled high on fresh baked rye...

Is The East Coast As Good As They Say?

Well, I've lived my whole life in coastal southern New England in CT along the 95 corridor within driving distance of some real beaten up industrial cities---hardly New England at all, more like a suburb of NYC. And yet, fall is still an amazing thing. Every bit as good as it appears in the...

    Samuel Gawith Finally

I smoked some!! Bite free full Virginia. I'll have to give it some more time and a few more bowls to form a more informed opinion, but I liked it a lot.

    Samuel Gawith Finally

Picked up two Kendal Cream deluxe and a Chocolate Flake. Never tried either. Haven't bought any Gawith since 2010. Still haven't opened the pound box of FVF I bought in 2010 and I'm still wondering if I should crack that open being as I've still never tried FVF. Prices are way higher now than...

    Advice Needed On Aromatics

With those particular blends. Nuke em in the microwave on a paper towel for 10 or 12 seconds. Take em out, stick em right into the freezer for another 30 or so seconds. Pack your pipe, smoke it.
