Why Are There (Almost) No Pre WW2 Vauen Estate Briar Pipes And German Estates Pipes in General Available?

That would be great if you could publish the catalogue. Its not by chance this one? https://www.tecon-gmbh.de/info_pages.php?pages_id=127 Really nice pupe, congratulations! Might have been an export version from outside Germany. Vauen and Dunhill came to the agreement, that Vauen would use...

Why Is HU Directors Cut More Expensive Than Other HU Tobacco Blends?

Tha ks for all the replies. Probably mist be really the popularity of the blend that drives up the price... Any recommendation what to try next from HU? I had Zulu, Fayum, Directors cut and Brullende Leeuw already. .

Why Is HU Directors Cut More Expensive Than Other HU Tobacco Blends?

Not sure how it is in the US market. But in Europe the Directors Cut blend costs around 35 Euro. Othere blends like Fayum around 22 Euro. Why this price difference? I think this wasnt the case in the past. Is it because of the popularity of Directors Cut?

Why Are There (Almost) No Pre WW2 Vauen Estate Briar Pipes And German Estates Pipes in General Available?

Thanks for the pictures. Bent pipes with a metal band seem to be a very common feature of german pipes. The crossed pipes Vauen logo is still in use today. Interestingly one of the two pipes depicted in the logo is a clone of the Peterson System pipe.

Modern Day British High End Pipe Makers, That Still Make Classical Style British Pipes?

Thank you. I heard of them a while ago. Seem to be in the midrange price and quality vise. Ah, yes. They would definitely fit the description! They also have very elegant shapes. I don't like the new ones to be gonest. They seem to have only the name in common with the old Barlings. I also...

Modern Day British High End Pipe Makers, That Still Make Classical Style British Pipes?

Its not a secret that the hey day and golden age of british pipe making is (unfortunately) long gone. But nevertheless, are there still british pipe brands and makers out there that do classical style shapes, like were done in the past by Barling, Comoy, Charatan etc.? Or is Dunhill the only one...

Thank you! Interesting to see examples of old German pipes. Quite beaten up indeed...

Why Are There (Almost) No Pre WW2 Vauen Estate Briar Pipes And German Estates Pipes in General Available?

Many such original sets are for sale on the internet. I asume this were mass produced sets. Quality is probably not the greatest. Unfortunatelly nothing like that is available for the time period of german empire/ww1.

Why Are There (Almost) No Pre WW2 Vauen Estate Briar Pipes And German Estates Pipes in General Available?

Oh I ment for this time period in general. Not sure if this mounts were made by Vauen. I rechecked the displayed catalogue of Vauen and it might actually be from pre ww1. It doesnt mentions the white dot at all, which was introduced in 1911... https://www.tecon-gmbh.de/info_pages.php?pages_id=127

Why Are There (Almost) No Pre WW2 Vauen Estate Briar Pipes And German Estates Pipes in General Available?

I would be interested in the 1900-1918 time period. It seems to me this te period had very beautiful designs and silverbands and army mount were very common. I saw a post ww1 Vauen catalogue, but xouldnt find anything earlier...

Why Are There (Almost) No Pre WW2 Vauen Estate Briar Pipes And German Estates Pipes in General Available?

It seems to me thats the most likely explanation. I also noticed that in most ww1 photos the soldiers smoke the "Jagdpfeife". Maybe this was way more popular than the normal briar pipes.

Why Are There (Almost) No Pre WW2 Vauen Estate Briar Pipes And German Estates Pipes in General Available?

Sorry, but thats one of the dumbest comments I have read. How is that related to pipe collecting, espacially German Empire and WW1 era pipes? Which the term "Pre WW2" encompasses. But even if it would be about estate pipes from 1933-1945, this is a pipe forum, and there is nothing wrong about...

Why Are There (Almost) No Pre WW2 Vauen Estate Briar Pipes And German Estates Pipes in General Available?

Actually in regards to ww2 pipes the situation is more clear, I also saw pipe sets on sale that were made for troops on the frontline. Small apple shaped pipes. Also judging by photos it seems this shape was very popular... I am more interestrd in German Empire up to 1918 though.

Why Are There (Almost) No Pre WW2 Vauen Estate Briar Pipes And German Estates Pipes in General Available?

But you do have other things like for example medals and other stuff from that time period sold on the internet. So I find it unlikely that a lot of collections got destroyed... I think its more likely that no German brand was perceived as collectible and there was probably more an utilitarian...

Why Are There (Almost) No Pre WW2 Vauen Estate Briar Pipes And German Estates Pipes in General Available?

Thats an interestimg theory, but we do have lots of porcelain pipes from that period for sale. There is also quoet a few few advertaisments of pipe smoking. And we do have public pictures of the crown prince and the emperor smocking. Ernst Junger mentions of smoking a small pipe during ww1 in...

Why Are There (Almost) No Pre WW2 Vauen Estate Briar Pipes And German Estates Pipes in General Available?

What I mean by that is if you look for German estate pipes you never find any briar pipes from the pre ww2 period for sale. Vauen as a factory exists since 1848. But there are almost 0 estate pipes for sale from the period of 1900-1945. Same goes for other German pipe manufacturers. This is...
