If You Had to Choose Only One Tobacco

I heard that in the past it was common that people only smoked only one tobacco. So if you had to choose only one tobacco for everyday smoke, which one would it be? I would probably go for Squadron Leader.

    1918 BBB Army Mount Pipe

Thank you for your advise and insight gentlemen! Very well argumented oppinions both pro and contra. I still havent decided yet. Guess will take some time. Or maybe I will smoke it only if a very special occasion arises. What I find interesting is, that the inner walls are smooth and same as...

    Not Many Ascorti's Get Posted

For me a typical Italian pipe is a huge rusticated pipe in neo-classical (oddly proportioned) shape. The well proportioned elegant ones belong to the british/french school of pipe making.

    1918 BBB Army Mount Pipe

Won this small pipe recently on Ebay. Its an unsmoked pipe from 1918. Aproximately group size 2. This kind of pipe was probably liked by soldiers who fought in the trenches of WW1. A small army mount for a qiick, that you could put into pocket. (But thats my assumption) Now I am not sure if I...

    Dunhill Really Special?

I am sure its a great pipe, but it doesnt has the shape and proportions of the classic french/british pipes. Italian pipes have their own style and its a whole different story. I am not speaking about quality, but about classic shapes and aesthetics.

    Dunhill Really Special?

I was talking about factory brands. And there is no other brand left that does the old classic shapes as good as Dunhill unfortunately. Especially if we talk about small sized pipes.

    Dunhill Really Special?

I dont think the price for a new Dunhill is fair, but of all the current pipe brands Dunhill has the best aesthetics and makes beautiful smaller sized pipes (group 1-3). Other modern pipe makers have pretty bad proportioned pipes. But I dont think Dunhills are better than estate family era...

    Tabaccheria Corti

I bought two Castello pipes from Tabacheria Corti. Amazing service. Not only that Luca remembered that I asked for a specific pipe a few months ago and notified me when he got this pipe from the Castello factory. Not to mention the super fast shipping.

    Barling 1914 Catalogue Question

I am very sorry Sabblebrush, wasnt aware that the catalogue PDF was stolen. Was trying to google some info about 19th century Barling army mounts and this link poped up. I must say I was a little bit surprised that the website was in Chinese. So if I understand correctly Barling produced plain...

    Barling 1914 Catalogue Question

EDIT: Fixed Capitalization in Title (See Rule 9) Found the 1914 catalogue on the web recently. Can be downloaded here: https://sopipes.com/images/9/98/Barling_1914_Catalog.pdf What surprised is, that all pipes in the catalogue have a silver mount/band. So no "plain" shanks and pipes at all...

    Army Mount

I love army pipes, espacially the ones from end of 19th century. I use the Peterson Army Billiard (69) as a "beater". That means for outdoors and rough environments etc.

    Whats Your Pipe Style?

British pipes: Small pipes group size 1-3. Classic shapes, mainly straight and bent billiard, smooth finish. Also pipes with army oor silver mount. Basicly the very classic vintage pipes. Italian: Big, rusticated, with unusual shapes, but billiard as well.

Thank you gentlemen. Yes, its the first time I saw a Charatan rueben era straight billiard in a relatively good, restored condition. An the price (125 USD) was ok for me. So I got it.

Bought My First Charatan Estate Pipe

I dont mind the issues. I also bought a Comoys pipes from the 50s in similar condition and it is pretty good. Replacing the stem , would kill the authenticity of the pipe for me.

Bought My First Charatan Estate Pipe

Sorry, I made a mistake. It actually corresponds to Dunhill group size 3. Which is fine as well. Thats the maximum size I am ready to go, in regards of classic British pipes. Thank you! Very interesting that this was considered large. I would love to get the smallest size Charatan billiard as...
