    Bare Minimum Pipe Rotation

I agree with 3 pipes: one for Latakia, one for aromatics, and everything else (except Lakeland) in the third. But be prepared, because there will always be room for one more...

    OTC burley blends - differences?

SWR - disappointing, the chemical aftertaste is quite off-putting. PA - great, raisin flavor on the top. CH -just like PA but cocoa instead of raisin. Half and Half - If you don’t like anisette, skip. Otherwise, it’s a pretty good aromatic.

    Tobacco Ash in Gardens

I was told in my youth it’s not great for the soil. A quick google search came back with more details as to why. A little bit of leftover coffee beans, on the other hand, does wonders for my roses.

    Rehydration techniques

I have a Dunhill pipe stand/humidor that comes with a very small sponge humidifier, which does the trick for keeping blends right. That humidor’s lid does not seal as a cigar humidor by design, so I don’t fear mold. For extreme cases, I reuse a Prince Albert tub with a hydro stick for a week and...

Retro fitting vintage Dunhill pipes to accept 9mm filters

I have a few Savinelli and they all came with a “balsa” filter. I’ve tried it and the flavor was much reduced, so I ditched the filters. Savinelli also includes a tiny plastic tube to reduce the width of the draft hole when no filter is used - also removed, they just complicate cleaning. They...

*** What Are You Smoking?*** (April 2019)

Prince Albert in a sandblasted James Upshall Canadian 5FH, whose chamber I coated with Bourbon-infused Maple Syrup. I’ve no regrets.

New guy looking for the right smoke... please help!

Welcome, prairiepiper@! Don't discount OTC blends just yet. I think Half and Half may give you the extra oomph in flavor you're looking for, and you will likely find it superior to Captain Black. I like Prince Albert and Carter Hall as well (for different reasons). Give Chelsea Morning a try --...

    London Tobacconist

Dunhill is near Davidoff - just walk past Lock and Co, same side on St. James’s. There is also a small tobacconist in Covent Garden. Quite charming. I bought a B42 Standard and a pouch of one of their mixtures. Came home with a broken-in pipe and almost no mixture left :puffpipe:
