I may Need a Hand with This One
Hmm well Blatter (and Rettalb) always had a red dot from what I know. They did have the two dots but those were red and white so that makes me doubt that it's a Blatter stem. Wish I could help more than that! Sure is a good looking pipe though. ...I could swear that I've seen that style of dot...- ichbinmuede

After looking at this one in the case at my local B&M I just couldn't leave it there any longer. A W.Ø. Larsen handmade no. 18 with what I'm fairly confident (and doesn't really concern me) is a replacement stem. Great grain and a great smoke. B-e-a-utiful. Love it. Front And side. Just...- ichbinmuede

Should I Send My Grandpa A Block of Briar To Carve (pic heavy)
It'd definitely be more difficult to carve than the usual stuff but it would mostly mean that he'd have to sharpen his tools more often. Peterson's Rustic vs Sandblast
That Peterson sandblast is a pretty typical sandblast colouring style as far as I've seen. Not to say that natural isn't but there's usually some stain involved. I personally prefer the look of their sandblast above their rustication. Actually I can't stand their style of rustication but...- ichbinmuede
