Man, am I glad I found you guys!

If they smell like cherries, vanilla, pumpkin pie, your grandmother's perfume, etc they are aromatics. Personally, I hate aromatics but you may find you like them. Try them all and see what you like. To me aromatics smell wonderful, have a wonderful room note, but burn hot and taste like...

Do You Open And Smoke Them All At Once?

I usually have 3 or 4 going at a time because I get tired of smoking the same blend all the time. Right now I have open Old Dublin, MM965, Durbar, and a bulk C&D VA/Per.

Which Do You Prefer? Salt Or Cotton Balls For Bowl Cleaning?

I've used the salt treatment for many years with great satisfaction but the cotton ball method is certainly intriguing.

    Tobacco in Australia

Although we have our problems here in the good ole USA I am thankful for our Second Amendment and our comparatively low tobacco taxes. We too, have more than our share of insufferable health Nazi wannabe dictators, this elitist jerk comes immediately to mind.

My One Issue with Ebay is...

That's known as piss poor customer service. A lot of that on Ebay.

    Newbie needs help.

The best advice I've ever received was from a tobacconist many years ago. Ditch the aromatics and go to English blends. No more gurgling and tongue bite and real tobacco flavor. It was good advice.

    Michael Glukler - Briar Blues

He held the Dunhill for me as well until I could come up with the money. I wish more people would do business like he does. Can't say enough good about the guy.

    -17, Windchill -30

Frank, We are two peas in a pod. I feel exactly the same. I visited the Finger Lakes region of Upstate New York a few years ago. God's Country if anyplace can claim that title, wonderful country. Andy

    Michael Glukler - Briar Blues

I know everyone is probably sick of hearing about how much I love my 1965 Dunhill Bruyere billiard that I bought from Mike and how well it smokes but while smoking it tonight I got to thinking that I owe Mike a testimonial, I hope this doesn't violate any forum rules. This pipe I bought from...

    -17, Windchill -30

Hopefully, we are about to do just that to a small extent.

    Pipe Smoking Astrophotographers/Astronomers?

Taks are friggin' fantastic scopes, never owned one but sure would love to someday. Look forward to hearing how you like it. Can't tell exactly from the pic but that looks like a Televue eyepiece. If so, I have several and they are outstanding, Al Nagler really knows optics.

    -17, Windchill -30

Just got off the phone with my mom who lives in northern Indiana. She said it was 7 degrees this morning and is currently 11 with a wind chill of -25. Call me weird but I miss it.

    Young(er) Pipe Smokers

I'm 49 and started smoking a pipe when I was 27. It's probably not the healthiest of pursuits but no one gets out of this life alive and I figure one might as well enjoy the journey. I'm glad to see younger folks getting into it.

    Pipe Smoking Astrophotographers/Astronomers?

Wow is that ever a nice rig. I have a Celestron C-8 on a Vixen Great Polaris equatorial mount. Expensive is right. Thanks for sharing.

    Can't stop the gurgling.

Kick the aromatics to the curb, that will solve the problem. Good tobacco tastes good on its own, no need to smother it with over powering casings.

Brand new Peterson ARAN 999 Poor quality logo stamp.

I would keep it and smoke it but that's just me. I like Peterson pipes.

The US South : Harry Crews

I grew up in the Midwest but have lived for the past 23 years in the South (Georgia) which is almost half of my life. I had a similar fascination with the region until I moved here. There is a great deal of romanticization of the South almost all of which is complete bullshit unless one pines...

    Chicago Antique shop

I have a business partner whom I struggle with daily who exhibits this same behavior. He chases off customers, acts like he is doing them a favor to help them, throws fits within earshot of them, etc. It's a real issue because I can't afford to buy him out and I've tried for 4 years to fix his...

    The Gurgling Pipe

Same here, I almost always dump it except for those fairly rare occasions when for some reason the combination of tobacco and pipe (probably has something to do with the moisture content of the leaf being near perfect) produces a perfect burn all the way to the bottom of the bowl. If you think...
