Recently my need for a good hobby has become as important as food and water. After much exploration, consideration, and lots of T&E, I found astronomy which spiraled into astrophotography with relative ease. If you thought collecting pipes was expensive... The two interests became passions which fit together oh so nicely. When you're out in the cold in the middle of the night gathering data, a pipe in the hand is so enjoyable and so useful. Astrophotography is a very solitary pursuit which, to me anyways, is greatly complimented by a pipe which made me wonder if there were any others here who'd discovered the same thing...? Obviously I'll ask around the astronomy forums as well, but I'm here first.

Wow is that ever a nice rig. I have a Celestron C-8 on a Vixen Great Polaris equatorial mount. Expensive is right. Thanks for sharing.

I had a decent setup as a kid. I don't do it much anymore, but keep up via my IPad app for sky watching. Matter of fact there is a particularly nice view in the west tonight. Mars, Venus and Mercury are close and early am before sunrise the moon and Jupiter are in the western sky.

Oh goodness. This thread is amazing. I LOVE astronomy and have a telescope myself. I agree that putting that and pipe smoking together is amazing.

I'm ashamed to say that I had completely forgotten about the Hubble and his pipe!! It's entirely possible it stuck in head and subconsciously inspired me. Thanks for reminding me of that!!!

Taks are friggin' fantastic scopes, never owned one but sure would love to someday. Look forward to hearing how you like it. Can't tell exactly from the pic but that looks like a Televue eyepiece. If so, I have several and they are outstanding, Al Nagler really knows optics.

I had a set up with a "T" mount to a Pentax K1000 SLR back before everything started going digital. With the scope I had it wasn't great for deep space but I have some great moon & planetary shots that still hang in my home.
Anyone have any experience with night vision scopes or binoculars?
