What Time of Day do you Enjoy your Pipe the Most?

I am too busy during the day for a pipe. My favorite time is when work is done, dinner is complete, and I can just relax without interruption. In the summer (in Wisconsin), it is on our patio. In the late fall/winter, it is in our garage with a propane heater, but that is only once and a while...

To Coat or Not to Coat

So I will say that I broke in my first pipe without a bowl coating a few months ago. It is a Butz Choquin pipe that I won during a charity auction. I loaded the bowl and smoked it. The first time the flavor wasn't great. Well, the first time, it was pretty awful. By the time I finished the third...

I am smoking Escudo navy flake from early 2000s in a Neerup structure churchwarden.

Cigar Smoker looking for Pipe Tabacco

I am also primarily a cigar smoker. My humidor is stocked with 90% Nicaraguan and about 10% Honduran. I find that I like pipe smoking much more when the weather becomes cool in the fall. Pipes really do the trick for me then. Maybe it’s because they can be used as a hand warmer! Regarding a...

    Favorite Tobak Pairings

I really enjoy Warsteiner Dunkel with a Balkan blend. It is a light bodied dark beer that really compliments the tobacco. I do have a difficult time pairing “regular” beer with a pipe.

    Mason Jar Brand?

I used mason jars for a while, then I came across the Le Parfait jars with a rubber gasket. Not cheap, but wonderful for tobacco!

***What Are You Smoking, August 2021?***

I am enjoying a nice Va/Per. 99% of the time, I smoke English blends. I have not had much luck with Va/Pers, but I just tried some I had in my cellar in a very small clay pipe for the first time in ages. It was thoroughly enjoyable. I think the small surface are of the bowl helped mellow it out...

What Do You Think About Neerup Pipes?

So now I have a conundrum. I received the Neerup pipe, which is absolutely gorgeous. I tried putting a pipe cleaner through, and it easily passed the mortise and tenon. Then, the cleaner got hung up in the shank. I took a closer look, and to my surprise, the drill hole is perfect in the bowl...

    Tobacco for New Smokers

Completely up to you. I would try to get a basic understanding of the different tobaccos and different blends, and stay away from flavored tobaccos. Then you can focus in on what you really like. I have tried many blends, and I stick with Balkan and Orientals, but that is just my preference...

What Do You Think About Neerup Pipes?

I agree about being careful with bent pipes. That being said, I would never keep a pipe that didn’t pass a cleaner when I received it. The Neerup churchwarden passed a pipe easily when I purchased it.

What Do You Think About Neerup Pipes?

I have one Neerup Structure churchwarden that I purchased because the style was a mix between wild and conservative. This evening I just ordered a classic smooth bent billiard that is just gorgeous. Looking forward to receiving it!

    What Cigar are You Smoking?

My Father La Antiguidad. I always have a box on hand (along with Flor de las Antilles), but I prefer the Antiguidad.
