***What Are You Smoking, August 2025?***

Great way to spend a Sunday morning. Out in the Florida room. Smoking 2017 Meridian in a Dunhill pot. Reading P.G. Wodehouse.

***What Are You Smoking, July 2025?***

Smoking: Solani 633 in the beautiful black and brown Bay bamboo brandy. Drinking: Sazerac rye neat. Reading: Day of the Triffids by John Wyndham (terrific early distopian sci-fi). Listening to: Chet Baker's "Chet" (not pictured).

Where Is Your Favorite Place To Smoke A Pipe

Most of my favorite smokes have happened in the Florida room out back. Almost always with a good book. And probably listening to early Chet Baker or Grant Green. I'm not a jazz guy as a rule, but somehow those two match up really well with a good book and a nice bowl. Runner-up/honorable...

    Ghosted Pipe Recipes

And also, probably goes without saying, but if you're concerned about shine, it'll definitely need a good polish, wax and buff after.

    Ghosted Pipe Recipes

Also, maybe worth mentioning, I let the pipe air dry for a full week before I attempted to smoke out of it.

    Ghosted Pipe Recipes

Same here. I do have one pipe -- a freebie vintage Ropp an eBay seller threw in with a purchase probably because it was thoroughly haunted by the vengeful ghost of Condor. I tried the salt and alcohol treatment several times but it did not fully exorcise the demon. I really liked the pipe...

    Pipe Sighting at the Movies

Just saw the new Wes Anderson (pretty nearly the same sentence that started the original thread back in 2023). In it, one of the stars, Mia Threapleton (Kate Winslet's daughter, BTW) smokes a pipe off and on throughout. In the beginning, it's a clay, which is curiously, possibly humorously...

***What Are You Smoking, May 2025?***

Partagas 170 Anniversario. Generous throw in gift in a pipe tobacco trade with a forum member who doesn't seem to be on the forum anymore. I'd love to thank him because it's a very nice stick.

    What are You Reading Now?

Went from the Carl Hiaasen I just finished to another Florida crime writer. Now reading Darker than Amber by John D. MacDonald. Was delighted by this passage on page 65. This Travis McGee fellow seems like my kind of guy.

Recommend me a New All Day Smoke to Replace Carter Hall and Prince Albert

PS 41 Cube Cut maybe. A bit pricier than Carter Hall, but not outrageous. Uhle's 00, 300 and Perfection Plug are all good too, but as you pointed out, quite a bit more expensive.

Anyone Have Thoughts on Christian Ruetz Pipes

I realize this thread is four years old, but I thought I'd respond because I'm a little surprised no one else has. I bought a pipe from Christian at this year's Chicago show. It's one of his signature "Broken Gaia" shapes. In fact, I saw thousands of pipes at the show and it was the only one...

    What are You Reading Now?

Just finished Jamaica Inn by Daphne DuMarier. Quite good. I can certainly see why so many of her books and stories were adapted into films (Rebecca, The Birds, My Cousin Rachel, Don't Look Now). Very suspenseful. Claustrophobic atmosphere. People who have active minds, who are totally isolated...

***What Are You Smoking, May 2025?***

Thanks! It really is. And more importantly, it's a fantastic smoker. Both of my first two smokes cruised pleasantly along and ended with me wondering why I couldn't get the tobacco to light anymore, and I was somewhat surprised to find out the answer was that ash was the only thing left. This...

***What Are You Smoking, May 2025?***

Rattray's 40 Virginia in Christian Ruetz's signature Broken Gaia shape. My only purchase from this year's Chicago show. As soon as I saw it, I knew it was the one.

    2025 Chicago Pipe Show!

I'll be there Friday night, all day Saturday, and Sunday morning. If anyone wants to say hi, I'm a CPCC member and I'll be manning the show floor entrance checking lanyards from 1-5pm. And then at the cpcc table in the smoking tent a lot of the rest of the time (it's usually the one closest to...

***What Are You Smoking, April 2025?***

About halfway through my first ever bowl of HU Dockworker. Not sure where my final opinion is going to land on this one, but it is certainly interesting! In a Dunhill estate billiard.
