    Wally Frank Pipe Stem????

I own an embarrassing number of Wally Frank pipes and I can tell you that it's impossible to make a blanket statement concerning their quality. For example, this flawless Collector rivals the quality of many of the higher end factory pipes I've had my hands on. However, I think it's safe to...

    Wally Frank Pipe Stem????

The stem is definitely briar. The idea, at least as they were sold, was that briar was both sweeter and more resistant to bite-throughs than other common stem materials. Wally Frank sold a few different all-briar lines over the years. Early incarnations were called Carpathian All Briars, but...

Starting a Pipe Repair and Pipe Making Business.

Woah there, hoss! I don't think anyone on this thread has either said or implied that you are an idiot. However, in your own words... ... you've indicated that you have no experience in either craft. So, the idea of turning it into a business is miles away at this point. Had you said instead...

Starting a Pipe Repair and Pipe Making Business.

I hope you'll pardon, but this is just an odd question. One would assume that anyone starting a business to both make and repair pipes would already know how to do so and anyone that knowing how to make and repair pipes would already know what they need. Neither is the type of business where...

    Is it really a "sitter"?

Yeah, I wouldn't call that pipe a sitter. It's just a pipe that happens to have decent balance. My definition of "sitter" is a pipe that was specifically designed to sit on a flat surface, The bowl should be upright and the stem suspended in air to keep it away from any nastiness on the table...

Advice Please (W.Germany Poker Pipe Project)

The "H" is for Horten AG, a German department store chain in business from 1936 until the mid-90s. Horten AG - Wikipedia - https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Horten_AG The company was sold to British American Tobacco (BAT) in 1987. Can't say for sure who actually made the pipe, but I hope that...

    Pipe Restore Wishlist?

George hasn't done a video series on mortise sleeves that I'm aware of, but it would be a good one just to illustrate why it's a trickier repair than most people might think. Getting a proper alignment between the stem and shank without altering either is practically impossible unless you're...

Show Off Your Wally Frank Pipe Here

Up to at least the mid-50s, most of the Wally Frank pipes were made by Comoy. After that, not so much. From then on, the majority of the Wally Frank branded pipes were made by Italian, French and American manufacturers. Weber was probably the most dominant source of Wally Frank pipes from the...

People coming out of the woods

I lurk like a mofo, buddy! ;) But yeah, I was being a little facetious. Just trying to demonstrate the mindset of those that might be a little unduly upset about the changes. Like I said, I completely digging it. The old site had the feeling of a small company intranet designed by an intern...

    How Do You Smoke Plugs?

I just use an Opinel #9 to shave off thin ribbons, and then dry as necessary before packing. A bit of drying time is essential for plugs and ropes. They have much less surface area compared to the same weight in flakes. Since the tobacco dries from the outside-in, there's a lot more moisture in...

People coming out of the woods

Hell, even I stopped by during my bi-weekly crawl out from under the rock. I like what's been done with the place. There are a couple of little irritants, but the improvements far outweigh them in my opinion ("@" replies? Hell yeah!) and it sounds like most of the rest is being worked on. So...

    Charatan Supreme "Auxiliary Stem" Project

Auxiliary? Toss the original in a drawer and forget that it exists. Rarely do a replacement stems fall into the "value added" category, but Big G's creations definitely do. That stem is more than an improvement.

    Some Nice British Pipes

What a score! Congratulations! I'm looking forward to seeing the rest of that bunch. That Sasieni is a real peach. Very similar. In fact, at first glance that's what I thought I was looking at.

    Pipe Stem Logo ID Help

What you have is a very early Wally Frank pipe. The "WALLY FRANK" over "LONDON" indicates that it was sold sometime between 1933 and 1936. I'd bet dollars to donuts that the pipe was made by Comoy's. I sort of collect Wally Frank pipes from that era and practically every one is Comoy-made. I'm...

*** What Are You Smoking?*** (June 2019)

I'm currently scouting the perimeter with the dog and some of Stokkebye’s Luxury Navy Flake in a Ron Powell / RDPipes bulldog. Hoping for a less eventful patrol than last night’s adventure. On our last outing yesterday, Mesa and I came across a copperhead by the side of the road. She followed...

*** What Are You Smoking?*** (June 2019)

Good afternoon to you all! It’s been a long while since I posted one of these “watcha smokin’” pics. So, I thought I’d share one of some Revor Plug that is currently set to smolder in a Tonni Nielsen brandy on this cool and soggy, southern Virginia Sunday. Cheers and enjoy your day!

    For the Dunhill Collector

Both pieces are from the same pipe. There was a break in the shank. Not a clean one. The two halves have been faced to remove the jagged edges, and then they were spliced together. I assume the tenon and mortise were broken as well, which would be the reason for the ugly replacement stem and...

    Stain color for restoring dunhills

You're not going to get the color you need out of a single bottle. You'll have to make a custom mix for each Dunhill pipe you work with. Yes, you will need a red tone for the Bruyere finish. My advice would be to practice your mixing with a few beaters before you try it with that Dunhill.

*** What Are You Smoking?*** (February 2019)

A bit of Sutliff’s original Benjamin Hartwell Signature Blend in a Thermofilter beater billiard while I take a short break this afternoon. I haven’t been posting lately because I’ve been focused on work and that has left me with little time to play around on the social webs. You know what they...

    Pipe Restoration That Exceeds Expectations

It was my absolute pleasure to work with these beautiful pipes, Shane. I hope that you enjoy them to the fullest.
