Interesting Modern Deco Pipe Stands On SP.com

Yeah, you’re right. I changed the title to modern deco. The company is called ”8deco.”

Interesting Modern Deco Pipe Stands On SP.com

They sold out quickly tonight. They came in gold and gunmetal, for one or three pipes. I assume the base is an engineered plastic but it was not described. The single stands were $25 and the 3-pipe stands went for $45. I like them. What do you think? I wish them came in a chair model, too.

    Pipe Night in Akron 11/25

I am meeting a buddy of mine (a well-known Ohio pipe maker) for a bite to eat around 4:30 pm Tuesday before going over to The Pipe Rack. We are eating at a classic tavern/steakhouse called The Diamond Grille, only 10 minutes away from the pipe shop. The Diamond opened in 1935 and I believe it...

    Jay Mouton Squat Tomato

By the.way, I used the descriptor “squat” tomato rather than “squashed” tomato because MBSD where I got it described it as “ J Mouton Sandblasted Long Shank Squat Tomato w/ Mammoth Handmade Briar Pipe, New” Oh well, toe-may-toe vs. toe-mot-toe, I guess.

    Jay Mouton Squat Tomato

This is my first Mouton, though I’ve admired his pipes for a while now. In the second photo it’s shown alongside another squat tomato by Adam Davidson, which is loaded with some Palmetto Balkan and ready to go.

LJ Peretti - 5 Burley Blends I Ordered

I find 333 to be a smooth smoke, and its cube cut burley is obviously top quality. But as JimInks noted in a review, 333 is like a refined version of that codger favorite, Carter Hall. The smoke is uneventful and predictable with little nuance or surprise. In a word, it’s rather boring, although...

LJ Peretti - 5 Burley Blends I Ordered

    100%. i guess there’s a reason why it’s LJP’s oldest enduring blend.

LJ Peretti - 5 Burley Blends I Ordered

I smoked two bowls of Blend W in a small Tom Eltang billiard and the Burley & Latakia were very tasty, along with something I couldn’t quite put my finger on. I smoked a third bowl today in a large Castello apple and midway through got a floral, Lakeland-like taste that I really didn’t care...

LJ Peretti - 5 Burley Blends I Ordered

Yes, I always ask for a few extra paper labels when the blends come in plastic bags and they are always generously supply a few at no charge. That’s the first time in 67 years anyone’s ever complimented my penmanship, but I guess in comparison it is a bit nicer than….

LJ Peretti - 5 Burley Blends I Ordered

As I always do, I jarred all five bags. Two ounces of loose pipe tobacco fits tightly into a 4 ounce jar. So far the W. looks really the most interesting because it is a cube cut. I did smoke a bowl of the Cuban Mixture on my walk with the Doberman tonight and it was as good as I remembered.

LJ Peretti - 5 Burley Blends I Ordered

I enjoy LJP’s No. 8 Slices and London Flake, so as I begin drifting towards winter Burleys, I decided to try five 2 oz. burley samples. The winner will see a 1 lb order. “Cuban Mixture”- one I’ve tried before and really liked. LJP calls it their oldest blend, made with 7 components. “No...

    Dunhill Tin Dating

I bought a vintage Dunhill Early Morning Pipe from an old collection with the code: CB022M21 Since M is the 13th letter of the alphabet and there were only 12 months last time I checked, maybe someone can enlighten me, too. I'm done smoking the entire tin (it was delicious) so the answer is...

How Do You Store a Lit Bowl

I guess that depends on the pipe. Last winter I was shoveling snow from the front walk in sub-freezing temperatures while smoking a big Castello apple. It began to be a bit much to clench, so I sat it down on the porch table. I forgot about it, finished shoveling and went inside. I came out 20...
