    Pipe cases

I have wanted to buy hard cases for several of my pipes over the years, but can't find anyone who makes them. I don't really need a case for my pipes, but I think it would add a touch of class to some of them. I know that several companies make the fold over, soft leather kind of cases that...

Pipe Filter Or No Pipe Filter .That, is The Question.

I have a Brigham Voyageur shape #184 comming to me this week. My first Brigham, although I have wanted to try one for several years now. I have several Savinelli's that take 6mm balsa filters. I usually don't use the filter unless I am travelling. They are convenient because you don't need to...

    Zebra pipes?

I seriously don't wish to step on anyones toes, or disparage any of the pipe makers out there with this opinion, but I'm going to just express it, and see if anyone else out there feels the same. Or not. Pipe grain. I konw most pipe smokers love looking at a well grained pipe. The more and...

I like small ones (pipes, that is)

Hopefully the picture will come through. Here are my "little pipes".

    Looking for simple

I used to keep track of what blends I smoked, and what I thought of them. If I liked them or not, etc. I got up to over 200 and quit keeping track. Unfortunately I was listing them in the back of Richard Hacker's The Ultimate Pipe Book, autographed first edition. I loaned the book out, and...

    Ferrari pipe

I don't know about Ferrari, but I have owned a Porche pipe. It didn't smoke any cooler than a regular brair, so I sold it. I understand that when they were first introduced, the fins on the bowl were larger, and it did smoke cooler, but that they didn't sell that well. That is just what I read...

February 2010 - What are you smoking?

I just finished my last pipe of the day. I had a bowl of Middleton's Cherry Blend. I like that tobacco usually, but tonight it tasted pretty bad. I switched pipes, and it still tasted bad. I couldn't figure it out. Then I happened to notice that i was puffing to fast. I have had some...

    Cleaning stems

Brazz, I have an older GBD Prehistoric with a clear perspex? stem. I used plain rubbing alchohol, and several pipe cleaners, and it cleaned right up. Of course the hole through the stem started turning brown again after half a dozen smokes or so.

    Fredericksburg, Va. tobacco shop

Thanks everyone. I hear from time to time, different things about Algerian briar. One, that's it's the hardest briar, and as such disipates the heat out the top of the bowl, producing a cooler pipe. Another, that's it's a softer brair, allowing it to be sandblasted away easier. Another...

    Fredericksburg, Va. tobacco shop

About a month ago I stopped by the pipe shop in Fredericksburg, Va. while my girlfriend appeased her inner shopping demon, and though they cater mostly to the cigar crowd now ( didn't used to be that way ), I did find that they had a portion of one wall in the hall plastered with pipes in...

February 2010 - What are you smoking?

Well, since I have had the day off, ( snow day lol.) and just logged onto this forum for the first time today, I will start with this morning. I enjoyed some Ashton's "Consumate Gentleman", after breakfast. Later I switched pipes, and had a bowl of Middleton's "Walnut". I just finished some...

I like small ones (pipes, that is)

I also have several smaller pipes that at first I didn't think I would like, but soon found them to be very convenient and smoke as well as my larger pipes. I wish I could figure out how to post a photo on this site. I tried a few times but it didn't work as I was told it would. Anyway, my...

How to Make Pipe Smoking Go Away Foreever

Wow. I read what Dek wrote, and didn't think much about it, but that was just his opinion. I am a little shocked to hear all the negative responses he is getting from this. Why are you all so quick to throw someone out of this forum just because he has an opinion? You should hrear some of MY...

    different strokes for different folks

I just read Mate's thread about adding more activity to the discussion forum, and I agree. I have been a member for about a month now, and have not added much myself. I do enjoy reading what everyone else writes though, but it does seem that only a half dozen members ever get into the...

    Pipes with Shellac/Varnish Finishes

I have also heard that a pipe with a shellac finish would smoke hot and wet, but I have a Hilson Bolero that has a shellac finish, or a finish that has never dulled anyway. Not sure if it is shellac or not, but it smokes great. Always has. I recently almost ordered two more just like it, but...

And now for something completely different

Well Peter, When I am breaking in a new pipe, I also leave the dottle in the bottom of the pipe, but only until the next smoke. Be it a couple hours later, or even overnight. I do this for the first 20 smokes or so, and by then the bottom is coated in tar. From then on, I just fill and...

January 2010 - What are you smoking?

This morning I had a bowl of Middleton's Walnut in a nice little Sasieni "Viscount Lascelles". This evening I think it will be Middleton's Cherry Blend in my Wombaroo, with a nice hot cup of tea. Good evening all.
