    Coach me up

Handsome pipe! I'm far to clumsy to risk a meer, bit that's exactly the kind of look I'd go for.

Tough Assignment: Name Your Top 5

Sixpence Capstan Blue FVF On the Bayou Frogmorton Cellar I'm not broadly experienced enough to really participate in a thread like this, though. I doubt if I've tried even two dozen blends yet. And the truth is I smoke SWRA at least as much as any of those others.

    "Age Limit" for Pipe Smoking?

    25. Other than a cigar, its the only tobacco I've used. I do enjoy some second-hand cig smoke now and again!

    Crazy night on the farm

Never a dull moment, eh?! Hopefully the law isn't too hard on him--if the seizures are to blame.

    Pipes made of cadaver bone

An old story I remember hearing about Diogenes the Cynic. As Athens' resident gadfly was nearing the end, he was asked by the Athenians what should be done with his earthly remains. He instructed them to throw his body over the city walls. "But what about the buzzards and the dogs?", they...

    Castello Sea Rock 32 KKK

What an entrancing finish...I could get lost in those jutting crags! And while a long shank usually bothers me, it seems right at home here. A worthy addition.

    What Is This Shape Named?

That's probably a better guess, jonasclark. To be honest I never knew what the purpose of the carb was (as I do not partake). In any case the kaywoodie strikes me as rather gimmicky!

National Briar Pipe Co. Nylon *Drysmoke* Pipes

DuPont sure has its fingers in a lot of pies, doesn't it? "The Greatest New Pipe Idea in 50 Years!" To put THAT in perspective, Dunhill came up with sandblasting within that time frame.

    What Is This Shape Named?

As soon as I saw that thing on the bottom I thought 'carburetor!' Common on "pieces", considerably less so on tobacco pipes. In fact I've never heard of one. I'm always shocked by old pipe ads, and the marketing effort that was expended to 'sell' customers a "cool, dry smoke". This could be...

New to it all...Am I headed in the right direction?

North is the wrong direction to go for reasonably priced pipe tobacco (if you're in the US, of course).

Fear of smoking among the herd

I had a professor who continued to smoke in his office long after they banned it in the building. He had been there as long as anybody, and much longer than most. They waited him out til retirement. :puffy:

    Pipe Theft

Meantime, a bag of seconds from Missouri Meerschaum and a PM to Shaintiques of the Free Pipe Project are in order, if that's still going.

    Pipe Theft

Damn, that sucks. Back when I worked at a Department store I had an old guy ("codger", as you might say) in looking for a knife-honing steel. Said somebody walked off with his, that he had bought in Germany (On tour with the Army after WWII, I supposed). "...And if I ever find the sonuvabitch...

    Capstan - "Original Navy Cut"

Love Capstan Blue. A great Virginia that doesn't hit me as hard as FVF.

    Cob Thoughts

My MM Washington is my most frequently smoked nowadays. Got it in a grab bag of seconds. Not bad for a $4 pipe! And I still haven't smoked the other nine...

    Something Seems ODD Today

Strange things do happen when you're working with large sets of numbers. Last week I was doing a budget projection for next year in my personal finances--at one point during the number crunching "1792" came up on the calculator screen. I still wonder whether I should have taken that as a portent...

    1SAMEER

Custom plates always torture my brain. "One's a meer"? "Is a meer"? "Wants a meer"? "1 Same ER" "1 Sam Eer"? "1 Sameer"? (An Indian or Arabic male name) I guess the pipe was a clue, but most on the road are probably confused!

    Gear Punk , Opinions ?

I'm alarmed by all the metal going into wood. Are different expansion rates not a factor in an application like this? I would fear cracking the wood when the screws got hot, but maybe I'm just worrying too much.

Highlight of the thread right here!

    Please Pass This On

Not at all, tuold. I wasn't responding to anyone in particular. It's the predictable yearly furor that I find tiresome. I am not a religious man, but if anything is Sacred to me, it must be a thing which is substantial--as deep and remote and awe-inspiring as the roots of mountains and the bones...
