Are Orders From The EU To The US No Longer "Tax Free?"

Good news! Yes, I just heard back from Luca and orders are still tax-free. It must’ve been a glitch on my end. That’s great news.

Are Orders From The EU To The US No Longer "Tax Free?"

I logged on to my account at tabaccheriacorti.com. Normally, it would show the prices of pipes in US dollars, "tax free." Is that no longer the case? I did send an email to Luca and will let you all know what I learn.

Too Many Open Jars/Tins In Rotation?

My dad's brother whom I greatly loved and admired, was born in 1922. A WW II combat veteran, he was not to be seen without his Falcon pipe and can/leather zippered pouch of Half and Half. One year I bought him a large can of Prince Albert for Christmas. It sat on his shelf for years unsmoked...

Too Many Open Jars/Tins In Rotation?

The only reason not to smoke a pipe or open and jar a tin is so your non-smoking great nephew can sell them a bit easier at your estate sale.

Too Many Open Jars/Tins In Rotation?

There are “jars” and then there are canning jars where you took the time to remove the tin label with a heat gun and glue it on the new jar & lid to present well on the shelf. In the latter circumstance, I see no problem with as many “open” tins that have been properly jarred as your roving...

Interesting Interview With One Of America’s First Artisan Pipe Makers

Simon of LCS Briars interviewed Mark Tinsky tonight on YouTube. Tinsky started his American Pipe Company in Pennsylvania in the 1980’s after working in a pipe shop in his native New Jersey and bicycling across Europe and Asia as a young man. Now in his 70’s Tinsky still makes pipes full-time in...

    SPC Plum Pudding 8oz Tins

With all due respect to those three blends, to paraphrase Sen. Lloyd Bensten in his 1988 VP debate, I know Quiet Nights, I’ve smoked Quiet Nights, and it, sir, is no Plum Pudding (and by most measures neither are any of the 18 or so HU blend I’ve smoked, either). I agree that one or two of...

    SPC Plum Pudding 8oz Tins

Today on P&C a 2 oz tin is $10.28 an oz. So, yes, $6.50 an oz is a sale. I dread to think what they will be asking for Plum Pudding at pipe shows 5 years from now.

    SPC Plum Pudding 8oz Tins

    I guess compared to Lane’s 1-Q it’s not.

    SPC Plum Pudding 8oz Tins

Smokingpipes.com has 8oz tins on sale today for $52. That’s about $6.50 per ounce for that deliciousness. It’s made at Sutliff in Richmond, so I assume when it’s gone, it’s gone.

Gawith’s Cabbie’s Mixture in two Tim West long stem billiards with soft ebonite buttons. Decades ago Tim was mentioned in Rick Newcombe‘s In Search of Pipe Dreams as one of the premier artisan carvers in America. At the Columbus show last year, Tim had a table across from mine, and I picked up...

Carl Jung and The Importance of Pipe Smoking

Jung maintained that one’s personality is inherited, which may explain why many of us claim to smoke a pipe because our grandfather, or father, or favorite uncle did. That assumes of course that smoking a pipe is indeed part of one’s personality. I think is is.

Loading up my favorite HU blend, Makhuwa, in a Castello “Lake Como” billiard. Costello briars stay lit in this cold weather on a long walk with the Doberman. Now, if Castello only came out with a soft ebonite stem, I would smoke no other brand of pipe.

    Hermit Works before 2010

As many of you already know, C&D is once again offering Captain Earle’s blends. I’ve particularly enjoyed Honor Blend and Ten Russians. I was searching this site for more info on Hermit Tobacco Works and saw this thread.

    Show me your rack!

Thanks. The pipes are generally arranged by maker, such as Castello, Ser Jacopo, etc., except for the artisan bamboo pipes In the white marble-base holders, which are organized by type. The pipes on the coffee table in the small wooden racks, are in the current rotation.
