A friend told me about this personal ad he had read. He was joking around and said he wanted to borrow a pipe from me so he could reply. I guess I should say that I did not loan him one and he wasn't seriously asking.
Anyway here it is, Enjoy
"Hello, interesting young professional female...
I used PIMO's "Combination Mortise Drill Bit & Shank-End Square" to do as the title suggests. Then I sorta ghetto rigged it to cut the tenon... its kinda hard to explain but I would he happy to show you if you want to see
I did make the stem from a rod. It became shorter twice from the "learning" process
Final weight is 39 grams, which is surprisingly light... However the stem and shank are on the thin side and probably wont add to its longevity.
Thanks everyone, I have always been good working with my hands so I figured I would give this a try. I dont have any "Danish eggs" in my collection, so thats sort of what I was going for.
Im a long way from making anything I would be considered showing to a real pipe maker. But not too far from...
Thanks everyone, as far as smoking characteristics go, so far so good. I didn't precoat the bowl so im getting some new bowl flavor... Ill have to look into that for future pipes
I just finished making my first pipe and am smoking it as I type this. I dont have a lathe(wood or metal) or drill press or belt sander or any real tools. Just a hand drill and a buffing wheel and some determination. I probably should have bought a pre-drilled kit, or at least a premade stem...
I didnt read all the posts closely but i don't think anyone mentioned moretti.
I have 2 pipes from him and one is a poker. Send him an email and he will customize one for you if you want, or make one for you to your specifications.
I mostly buy La Colombe. All their blends are amazing! It's roasted here in philly and is a local favorite. Not sure how wide there market is but you can order on line. http://www.lacolombe.com
