    Grandfathers Pipe Restore?

Thanks for the advice. I will keep the pipe as a momento and not use it. The ironic part is I just acquired the pipe from my Uncle (his son) and in the very early ‘70’s my Grandfather gave me a zippo lighter which I always kept. I will now have both on my shelf.

    Grandfathers Pipe Restore?

I just obtained my Grandfathers Cob and was wondering if some maintenance could be done? He passed away in 1974 and most likely had this in the ‘60s. I noticed the stem/bit was not completely tight and while trying to remove it, certain areas began cracking where the stem meets the chamber...

When in Doubt, Dry It Out

Like you, I an new to pipe smoking and started with Aros. Was also disappointed by not tasting what I was smelling. I am trying other varieties of English, Virginias, etc so cannot obviously give a definitive answer. I tried Molto Dolce and really liked it as I could detect a nice sweet flavor...

    Tobacco Cuts…Which One?

In every venture I’ve undertaken, I ALWAYS try to access as much knowledge as I can in order to enjoy that venture to its fullest. Obviously this “never settle for average” attitude can lead one to empty wallets and/or the road to insanity. It it is just human nature to always want the best and...

    Sutcliff Molto Dolce

Thanks…yep, many have mentioned that to me and I have been doing it. I can “taste” better now and am also being able to detect slight nuances just from gaining experience.

    Autumn Evening—No Taste?

I am a beginner pipe smoker and have taste buds that have permanently gone on vacation. I have started with mainly Aros and taste nothing. Members here instructed me to retrohale since the taste sensation is mainly with the smell through the nose. And also, I have read countless times that you...

    Pipes in NY State?

I am (hopefully) moving soon to the NY State area above Binghamton and was wondering if anyone can tell me of any tobacco shops that carry quality pipes? I am interested in purchasing a couple really nice pipes and would prefer to see them in person so I can actually feel them in my hand. I am...

    My Meerschaum is Here! Yay!

Very nice. Best of luck with it.

    Sutcliff Molto Dolce

Yes, will try this. Anxious to go back and visit even the very mild ones I’ve tried. In fact, yesterday I tried some C&D Star of the East and I didn’t care for it at all (Latakia). BUT, as Andrew Ziimmern from Bizarre Foods always states. ”Even if you really dis-liked it the first time, you...

    Sutcliff Molto Dolce

Yep, that’s how I got the flavor. I’m still going to work on my sipping & breathing techniques to see if I can extract even more flavor.

    Sutcliff Molto Dolce

I‘ve only been smoking pipes pipes for about five weeks and by biggest problem (even with food) is extracting flavors…especially subtle flavors. My taste buds are just not as vibrant as they used to be. I have been trying about 6-7 different Aros and just do not taste any flavor…zero…nada…Don’t...

    Whew! Not for Me!

I have been smoking pipes for about a month so obviously VERY new. I have been trying different tobaccos in Aros, English, Virginias, etc. and mainly trying all in cobs. I’ll admit that my taste buds are shot so extruding flavor is slim to none. Although the Aros I’ve tried have been nice to...

    Observations From a Beginner

Was from Glenolden. Was born and raised there, moved away to Chester Cty for a few years and then back to Delco.

    Observations From a Beginner

Being a new pipe smoker (cigars for 25 years), I am obviously going through the trials regarding tobacco, packing, lighting, etc. The first few bowls were a bit difficult with re-lights and my ashtray looked like I was saving match sticks to build a full size cabin. And as I posted in a...

    Sunday Morning Smoke

I was just thinking that the other day. I always wanted the “best” of everything and am happy to say I did achieve a lot while working. But now, at 66 and retired, I‘ve made the decision to simplify almost everything. I sold my 3- story house in a heavily congested area and am moving (hopefully)...

A Guide for Getting the Best from Your Pipe Smoking Experience

#5 - I‘m lucky. Where I am currently staying they have Well water and the bacteria just intensifies the flavor. #8 - I prefer Mapp Gas as the black smoke melds beautifully with the white tobacco smoke which also intensifies the flavor.

    Churchwardens…Opinions and Photos.

I just purchased an inexpensive one today just to try since holding a regular size pipe with your arm is hard work ;) Am looking forward to the laziness needed while sitting with this one.

    Flavor Recommendations?

Will do. Yes, I have read about Cpt Black and 1-Q. Of course I didn’t discover that until I purchased the 1-Q. As mentioned above, I have ordered some English Blends and should have them by Monday. Unfortunately, we are supposed to have a winter storm which will leave me a bit stranded for a few...

    Flavor Recommendations?

Thanks…and yes on the Review site. I joined a few days ago and refer to it often. Yesterday I just ordered some 1 oz samples of some of the blends you mentioned and am anxious to try them. I recently tried two aros - Lane 1-Q and Mac 7 Seas Royal. Although very mild flavor for me, I could...

    Flavor Recommendations?

Thanks for the recommendation. It’s ironic what you stated in your last sentence as I have become a big believer in that in the last couple of years. I build large wooden model ships and WWII dioramas and had this sign made up that sits in my model room.
