    Briar Blocks Suppliers: Recommendations?

Thank-you all for the suggestions, leads, suppliers, and links to briar blocks. I will probably, unless I absolutely get to love pipe crafting, make only a few pipes. It won't be a cheap experiment when you factor in the cost of briar, stem blanks, tooling, shipping and handling charges...

An Amazing Feat Performed by a Child.

Amazing! But have you ever tried to quickly unstack/separate these plastic cups? They sluggishly pull apart because they are tapered, and sometimes they fit so tightly together that you need two hands to separate them. A weak vacuum prevents them from pulling apart very quickly. Just...

    Naval Collision Inquiry

I read thru all of the various discussions and found that I learned a great deal, especially from those with experience serving in the military. I never served, but I do have great respect and admiration for those who have served their country. Thank you, really, for the sacrifices that you...

    Uber Cool Maigurs Knets Pipe

Thanks for posting photos of this special pipe. The design, proportions, and execution are flawless....how does he get such a tight seam when joining two different woods on the shank section, and with mother-of-pear inlays!..is beyond my comprehension. But ALL would be lost without the non...

    Foreign Contaminants in Tobacco

I cringe at the thought of what's gone into my mouth over my many years. Living in NYC "The Big Cesspool" all my life, I can only guess at what passed by my tonsils. When I was a boy, the "5 second rule" was alive and well in my world. But, I'm still here. Finding rubber and ropes in pipe...

    Balkan Dilemma...

Lane's "HGL"...very mild English, with just a touch of Latakia blended into the other tobaccos. Let it dry out for a few days. No burnt leather smell, either, so, it's easy on everyone's nose. Happy hunting finding your tobaccy Nirvana. Frank

Share Your Favorite All Day Smoking Tobacco, Please and Thank You

Just started smoking my briars again after a long period of being de-piped.... (my choice)...but I found, to my delight, mixing one part (by volume) of Lane's "HGL" with one part of McClelland #2050 does it for me. Smooth, easy-on-the-tongue, nice room note, and these blended tobaccos are...

    Grabow Zulu Before and After

@ bigpond....."epic wood"... @ jpmcwjr....."that was her comment as well" ....Funny comment! Hearing that's way better than ....."get a load of that short nose-warmer".... ; ))))) Frank

    Grabow Zulu Before and After

@ Dave.... Nic refinishing job. You turned that sow's ear into a silk purse. You mention in your post that you used a combination of Fiebings dyes to stain your pipe.....mentioning that you added orange and burgundy...etc. Is "orange" and "burgundy" the actual name that Fiebings uses on the...

    Stuck Stem After First Smoke

I rub wax - (candle, beeswax, Carnauba, or whatever you have on hand) - onto the tenon section on all my pipes.....before re-inserting the stem into the shank. I've never had a stuck tenon. Do this to a pipe when pipe is at room temperature/"cold". Good luck with your pipes. Frank

    Briar Blocks Suppliers: Recommendations?

Perfect! When in doubt, don't guess....just ask forum members for the right answers....and you get helpful, and useful information. Many thanks for the quick responses, and interest. Tomorrow, some phone calls I will be making. Winter is coming soon, and I need to do something constructive...

Cherrywood....Branch Sections - for Pipe Making

Winton- I'm inclined to agree with what you say about the dangers of pith cracks, etc. Wish I could get my hands on a section of thick, trunk (without pith area) for the bowl and having a smaller side branch for the shank. But, I don't. And also the time it takes to season the wood is also a...

    Briar Blocks Suppliers: Recommendations?

So, I decided to try making some briar pipes. When it comes to my skills failure is always an option, but really, how hard can it be to drill and connect few holes? (I'll probably eat those words). I've already designed some full-size pipe profiles on sheets of graph paper, and want to begin...

    Using Green Leather Dye

saint.... For what ever it's worth, here's my thoughts: .....Test your staining, and finishing procedure on a scrap piece of briar, and see how the combination of dyes work for you. You'll at least get a good idea of what you need to do regarding the coloring, and getting the desired end...

Cherrywood....Branch Sections - for Pipe Making

mso: Thank you for your interest, and for clearing up my less-than-accurate terminology. I didn't realize "Cherrywood" was also a pipe style/shape. Still trying to find some well-seasoned, cherry tree branches, but not having much very success. I wanted some branch sections having a small side...

Congratulations. You and your family will be rewarded for your kindness when you rescued that poor dog. You will not be sorry. If I had my life to do over, I'd have a dog by my side, always. Enjoy your new adoption....the dog, after all, picked you. Good luck, Frank
