Hello Forum Members: I need your help. I recently purchased an (Etsy) estate pipe, a 1/4 Bent, GBD Smooth (flame grain), Chubby-Rhodesian: #569-GS/St. Claude w/round shank-black saddle bit. I am trying to find out some information about this particular pipe shape. I am confused between the...

    Wilke's "HIGH HAT" Hybrid Blends

Years ago, I tried out a few ounces of this famous mixture (this was back when Wilkes was still on West 55th Street/NYC), and I thought it was a bit too strong for my tastes. Too much Latakia/burnt leather aroma. I would like some recommendations on what available tobacco blends I can use to...

    Favorite blends

Hello, gents of the briar.... I recently had a revelation, an epiphany, and re-thought my opinion of "HGL" Lane Ltd. I originally thought it was way too heavy in the Latakia department, but now - after smoking it straight out-of-the-bag, and also mixed with other tobaccy in various proportions...

Maple Lovat off the Bench - Pic Heavy

Love that Lovat.....nice wood. Looks like a figured maple...tiger stripe? Like the contrasting wood band, but the brass dot makes the stem. First-rate job! Congrats... to the maker and to the smoker.

    Homemade Greek Briar Soup

Who cares about the briar? Now I'm hungry, again. OMG!!!! Now I have to drive over to Astoria, Queens/NY....to one of the greatest areas settled by Greeks, and the food is just heavenly. Figs, olives, cheeses, pastry, cookies, all homemade and fresh. Oh....for a dish of oven braised lamb...

Match Tobacco vs. the Real Blend

Love the thread, especially the links leading to all the reviews. Very, very informative. Great stuff! Now, because of some of the treads covering the subject of VaPer blends, I decided to take the plung and try a few Virginia-Perique blends. For my unveiling, I started by smoking...

    Wilke Pipe Tobacco Suggestions

"Gotham Court"...a wonderful, smooth, blend, mild and mellow. Others will love the aroma, too. Smoked it in my salad days. BTW, Wilke used to sell sample packets of their blends. Ask....maybe they still do. It's the best way to smoke small amounts of different mixes until you get to know...

Are Increasing Numbers of Pipe Smokers Good or Bad?

Reading through all the posted comments makes me scratch my head, and wonder how the statistics were generated. Common, everyday, observations lead me to this conclusion....the statistics are wrong. I believe there is little or no evidence to support the assertion that pipe-smoking is on the...

    High Vitamin N Blends?

Guys.... Thanks for naming names. Now I know what not to buy. Don't like the getting a nic-buzz, the nic-headaches and queasy stomach. Frank

    Escudo

@ davidintexas..... Thanks for the pep talk. I needed it. Try as I may, I really can't tell the differences between one BLEND from another, and couldn't, even with a gun pointing at my head, tell you what tobaccos were in any given blend. Except any blends smelling of Latakia. I could smell...

Squat Bulldog w/Cumberland- Just Off The Bench

Beautiful pipe. The stem looks more difficult, and more complicated to make well, than the wood section. Just a guess on my part. I'd hate to get all those tapering and converging angles wrong! Technical question: Do you join the Oosik bone to the briar shank, or, join the bone to the...

    Virginia/Perique Blends..... First Time Smoker

I specifically bought "match-Elizabethan" because I read that Dunhill is phasing out their tobaccos. I didn't want to chance loving a blend that's almost semi-defunct, and will be retired shortly.

What Time Is Your Favorite Time to Smoke?

I try to smoke my pipe after lunch, between 1:00 PM -2:30PM....and then again, right around dusk. Love sitting on my back deck, alone, and love to smoke especially if it's a cool, breezy, evening. Indian Summer...the best! Autumn in New York can be quite lovely. The stench of filthy streets...
