When Smoking Your Pipe Is The ONLY Thing You Do
I most often read while smoking my pipe, but I find that fairly regularly, I'll put the book aside and just sit and smoke. If I'm trying a new blend, or if I'm trying to learn something specific about a more familiar blend, I'll definitely just pay attention to the smoke.- phred

Greatest Tobacco I've Ever Tasted

Family Member That Smoked
None of my relatives smoked a pipe, to my knowledge. My paternal grandfather smoked cigarettes, but he died before my parents met. Try it and find out... :D Based on what I've read on other threads regarding mason jars, the use of a vaccum sealer is probably overkill, and would not help if you're trying to age a blend in the jar. But if you want to preserve a particular blend as is, it could work...- phred

drew estate pipes are hideous!
Why annoyed? If you don't like it, don't buy it. The pipes in question are made by Tsuge, and have some interesting design elements, such as the screw-on cap with the Drew Estate logo (which can be screwed onto the base of the pipe, out of the way while actually smoking). I don't find the...- phred

Aromatics??
Can't speak to Deep Hollow, but the Frog Morton blends that I've smoked so far are not what I would call aromatics. I use my Latakia pipes for them with no compunctions whatsoever. Sav 320....real deal or hype?
I don't own a Sav 320 (yet), but I have two Rossi 8320 pipes - same shape, but lower price point and no filter. They're surprisingly clenchable, though they fill my hand nicely as well. I've been a fan of saddle stems, and worried a little that the thicker stem of the 8320 would make me look... -

Thoughts on Stanwell.
I lucked into a Danish-made Stanwell Zebrano (bought it at my local B&M), and it's probably my best smoker at the moment. -

It all comes down to time and training. If you want to develop your palate, the aforementioned article(s) by pruss (I believe he did 3 total) are a great place to start. Fiebing's Leather Dye - Common Colours
It took me a while to notice, but my Stanwell sandblasted pipe appears to have a red undercoat of dye, followed by a black topcoat. Now that I've handled it a little (and smoked it outside in direct sunlight), the flecks of red peeking out from under the black are stunning.- phred

Tamping whilst smoking
Tamping has nothing to do with etiquette, which is about decorum, manners, and proper behavior.
