Pro Sports: Are the Seasons Too Long?

As a baseball fan for life, I want to choke every NBA and NHL fan who says baseball season is too long. The NHL and NBA go for 8-plus months. What's more their regular seasons mean nothing by allowing 16 of 31 (NHL) or 30 (NBA) teams into the playoffs. And those playoffs last for freaking ever...

New Proposed Bill Seeks to Eliminate Online Tobacco Sales

Before we panic — too late, I suppose — can't we be comforted by two realities of our political world? Two Democrats proposed the bill in the House. Ergo, even if it gets out of the House, the Senate ain't going to approve it. If the Democrats like something, the Republicans don't, and vice...

    Pipe Tobacco Availability Frustration

I've been on a GL Pease Virginia-Kentucky, Virginia-Kentucky-perique binge recently. Blends like Jack Knife Plug, Triple Play, Sixpence and Navigator are just horrible. Don't order them.

    American ordering from Europe

Greetings from Vail. And I am on the sp.com notification system. Great Colorado minds think alike.

    American ordering from Europe

Greetings all, One of my favorite tobaccos is Peter Hernreich's Curly Block, the gigantic log form of the tobacco, NOT the twists. When SP.com had it in I ordered one log, smoked half of it and loved it. Living in rural Colorado, 100 miles and two big mountain passes from Denver, I use the web...

    TSA-approved Pipe Tools??

I've never had an issue with a Czech tool and I fly with my pipes all the time.

    New Jersey Beach Smoking Ban

They've banned smoking in parks in San Francisco, and when I visit my family there, I violate that law. I'm not the only one. Perhaps, I'm the only one smoking a pipe, but you get the picture.

Difference Between Westminster and Quiet Nights

I forgot ... Gaslight, too. Pease's Englishes are spectacular.

Difference Between Westminster and Quiet Nights

I agree with the above — Westminster then Quiet Nights. Take a look at Odyssey as well. All are fantastic.

Ballot Measure to Ban All Flavored Tobacco (Including Pipe)

Born and raised in San Francisco, and return regularly to visit family. And, yes, I vote Democrat. First off, there aren't any true tobacconists left anyway. Sherlock's Haven went away in 2006 and Grant's closed in the last few years. You can't buy any "decent" pipe tobacco in the city anyway —...

    G.L. Pease Blends

Love the conversation. Just from my experience, GLP blends take a while for me to learn them, i.e., how to pack his blends, how to smoke them and which pipes tobaccos go in. If you're sampling, smoke at least the full tin in different pipes/packing/cadence before making a judgement.

    McCranie's Red Flake - Well, That's Disappointing

    Unobtanium Syndrome, I think.

    P&C Battle of the Blends

I like this feature with P&C. I see it in their catalogs, like Escudo vs. Peter Stokebye (sp.) Luxury rolls. I enjoy debating it myself. Good promo by P&C. And, yes, blech, Captain Black would win because that's what most people smoke. My grandfather believed that the old Amphora was the only...

    How "Done" is Dunhill?

I understand the hoarding of McClelland Virginias. The MacNeils had a special way of preparing their Virginia blends, which are very appealing. Dunhill, though a huge name with a trove of history in our hobby/lifestyle, is not irreplaceable. Its Englishes — EMP, 965 and Nightcap — are good, but...

Reddit's Pipe Tobacco Market Has Been Closed

I liked where Sable was going with Haddo's Delight, though.

McClelland 40th Now $150 a Tin on eBay

AZ PIPE ... Bingo ... I collected baseball cards as a kid in the 80s and saw the boom and bust of cards. This is a mini-stock market, and, certainly, in the wake of McClelland's sad departure, a bubble. Thinking about this from afar, and with a nice little collection of McClelland blends —...

    This Just Makes Me Sick

My whole beef with this thing is that people are making pipes and smoking them not fun. I get capitalism and supply and demand, and if you can get $120 for a 50g tin of Frog Morton (are you kidding me?), OK. But Pipes and smoking them are the relaxing part of my life. And the last few weeks with...
