    Shiny or not?

Yeah, that's about how the truth works these days.

    Shiny or not?

One of my first pipes was a highly lacquered Viking Rhodesian that smoked hot as hell. It was either the lacquer or my inexperience. Occam's Razor tells me it's the latter, and thankfully that saves me from speculating about how the permeability of briar affects heat transfer which may be...

Just Opened A 19 Year Old Tin of Mac Baren Symphony. Pictures

I THINK the Swisher import label does indicate the date range noted is correct. I have a tin of Va. #1 with a similar import sticker from around the same time. EDIT: Re: the "ready rubbed," that's a pretty standard level of "rubbing" for Mac Baren ready rubbed. It's not rubbed enough for me. I...

    Shiny or not?

I think the supposition is that the heat the gets to the outside of the bowl doesn't diffuse as well from the surface if it has a heavy lacquer on it. Like wearing a sweater, perhaps. Not really anything to do with it "breathing." I don't know if there's anything to that, since I don't smoke...

Proposed: Hipster millennials are GOOD for pipe smoking

Two losers do not a generation make. That said, are you hiring and what is the opportunity to work remotely? ;)

    A little bit burned

Blow every third "sip" or so out your nose to experience all the blend has to offer. This is a great thread, with some of the sagest wisdom available. Heed it and you'll be just fine! Welcome!

Proposed: Hipster millennials are GOOD for pipe smoking

Yeah - it was mostly rhetorical. I wasn't trying to be political - or a bummer. It's just something that's been weighing on me for a while now. I apologize!

Proposed: Hipster millennials are GOOD for pipe smoking

No doubt about it, and the problem isn't just ageism. Even HAVING a full-time job isn't a guarantee of anything these days, either. Both my wife and I work full-time in "legitimate" professions. I, an insurance agent, and she the office manager of a senior living community. You'd think with...

Proposed: Hipster millennials are GOOD for pipe smoking

Many of everybody these days don't have a full-time job, and not necessarily by choice. Grump.

Proposed: Hipster millennials are GOOD for pipe smoking

I say that I agree with you 100%. I've never understood the desire to look down one's nose at somebody as if they're "less than" or don't deserve to partake in the same experience because they came to it via a different road or motivation. Who cares what their motivations are? They're supporting...

Tobacco Recommended for Short Term Aging

The Most Improved Award, in my opinion, goes to the Stokkebye Luxury line (Bullseye Flake, Navy Flake, Twist Flake.) I find them nearly un-enjoyable brand new because they just taste too young and raw, but they become something entirely different after about 1.5-2 years. Most other blends I'm...

Question for You Guys that Listen to the Radio Show / Podcast

I listen on Stitcher and just stream it when I want to enjoy an episode, which I do often. The download metrics would show all downloads via subscription AND streams as downloads, though anyway right? Just wondering why Brian is wondering.

Cellaring with Peck - A New Reality Show

It does make me smile to see this thread resurrected. It is one of the few I have notifications on.

A Truly Stunning eBay Pipe! Amazing Value!

I love that it's a "collaboration." It literally took TWO people to create something this ugly and ridiculous.

A Truly Stunning eBay Pipe! Amazing Value!

A VERY quick response from the retailer: "Hi Tom, That is the retail price on that piece. It is a one of a kind collaboration between two artists named Elbo & Coyle." I hope she wasn't offended by my inquiry.

A Truly Stunning eBay Pipe! Amazing Value!

Curiosity got the better of me and I have emailed the seller through their actual webstore, which is angiesboutiques.com. This piece is listed on the site as well for $9999.99. They do have some VERY high-end glass on their webstore, with the bearosaur representing the 2nd most expensive thing...
