    Salt treatment question

Does anyone have any experience where the salt dried out the pipe so much that there was ultimately some burn out issues or hot spots?

P&T Magazine Index - Working On It

Unfortunately, no. At one time during the time they were still in print, one could purchase digital access to their site and you could see digital copies of their magazine. They even had an attempt at a Forum of sorts but it didn’t take off. I think that there was enough apathy and the dollar...

What Are You Drinking? March 2024

Enjoying a little bit of Shackleton I bought last year. Neat in a vintage 1950’s tumbler. Working on the P&T Magazine Master Index.

Why do B&Ms Rebrand Bulk Tobacco?

I remember Comferford’s here Ottawa rebranding Lane 1Q and sold it as their home blended “Confederation Blend”. I always wondered why they went to all the trouble in re-naming their stuff too. I was happy to ultimately get what I wanted though.

P&T Magazine Index - Working On It

I’m spending this Good Friday day off at home finally getting around to completing the Excel spreadsheet I created that serves as an index of every article in each volume of the now defunct P&T Magazine. They used to have an .html version available on their website. I downloaded that years ago...

Remembering the Choices of Old Sites

Iceberg is a good analogy…our iceberg of vintage sites is receding just like the glaciers and blends of old…that’s why we should treasure what we have now all the more!

Remembering the Choices of Old Sites

Not an exhaustive list by any means, and I think that collectively we could all come up with more sites and forums. I remember as a newbie back in the early 2000's combing through these sites. Who else had fun searching Frenchy's site for that damned cannoli so they could get their discount...

Did You Lose Your Taste for Aromatics Over Time?

Our palates and craving for satisfaction changes from time to time. I tend to smoke aromatics and Virginia blends in the late spring, summer and then as the cooler weather comes I move to English/Balkan blends predominantly. It's not etched in stone. In the past, when I felt that the aromatics...

In Love With My New Peterson

Great looking pipe. I enjoy the P-lip from time to time as well. I’ve found that by smoking a Peterson P-lip pipe, it’s helped me slow down with my other pipes in the collection. Just wait until you smoke a system pipe….now we’re talkin’ smoooooth.

    Tilshead Saddle Stem Dublin

Excellent work. Glad you’re smoking it. That’s a keeper for sure. Check out that damn bird’s eye on the rim of the pipe…gorgeous. Don’t bend the stem, leave as is and enjoy. Great pipe and thanks for the pics.

    Stanwell Beechwood

I bought a Stanwell “Naturel” pipe…wait….let me go get it and I’ll take a snap of it for you….okay see the photos attached. I bought this pipe at RJ Clarke’s in Gastown, Vancouver. It was the same colour as the “Beechwood” pipe you linked above. Over time, it’s become this colour. It’s darkened...

Do You Have A Tobacco Tray?

I simply use a piece of available paper. I sprinkle my tobacco (usually from a jar) onto the paper, and load my pipe. Then, I fold the paper to dump the remnants and dust back into the jar and seal it up. Then, I put the paper back on my wife’s desk where I got it from.

    Subscription Services Discussion

Closest thing to what you might be after would be perpetual box passes taking place. So jealous of you guys in the US with the cheap access to tobacco (well, most States anyway). Way back in the day, our pipe club in Ottawa used to do the Box Pass between Canada and the US - that was some box...

Georg Jensen Pipes - Models, Shapes, Info, and Mysteries

I have a couple of Georg Jensen pipes in my collection as well. Great little pipes for the money. My first experience with them was when I was a new pipe smoker and ordered a pipe from FF Pipes in Denmark. A Stanwell Duke and a Georg Jensen 1989 Year pipe - a billiard that was very slender and...
