    Scottish Blends

It seems that Scottish blends are also known as Balkans? From what I gather, these two sound like interchangeable terms...perhaps someone can clarify. I have recently come to adore Dunhill's Aperitif, and promptly order several dozen tins to stash away. What else should I try?

    Bjarne Nielsen Handmade

I know that Bjarne stopped making his own pipes fairly young in his life, but had some fantastic up and coming pipe makers do his Handmade series pipes under his name. I love these pieces. They speak to me and I must own one or many. What says the forum about these pipes?? To be clear, I'm not...

    McConnell blends

Been looking to pick up some of their blends, which always seem to be out of stock here in the USA. Noticed Iwan Ries got a resupply so I snagged some of their Scottish Flake & Cake. Haven't had their stuff before but excited to try it out.

    Caught My Eye

Saw this on Briar Blues tonight. Been looking for a smaller Castello for lunting, but it would eat all my Christmas money. Thoughts? Castello Sea Rock

    Castello = flake masters?

I was told by a couple of folks now that Castellos are known for being great flake smokers. Is there any truth to this from the Castello fans out there? I just picked up an awesome estate Castello bent billiard on SPC with some glorious grain. It's my first and I'm wondering if I skip all my...

Help Me Date a Dunhill Opera

Have been looking for one of these for awhile now. Finally snagged one off eBay and went about dating it. According to the info on Pipedia, my guess is 1959 but I’m not 100% sure. Any help would be appreciated.

    New Pipes!

So I can officially say that both my PAD and TAD have taken off. Wanted to share a few pics of some recent acquisitions: 1947 BBB Bullcap: Boswell Smooth Sitter: Dunhill Opera (1959?): Radice Canadian: I'm still trying to date my Dunhill, as it seems they kept changing their system over the...

    Crackling Sound

As a newbie pipe smoker, I’m beginning to break my pipes in slowly as you folks have suggested. I noticed that as I get to the bottom of the bowl, I occasionally need to dump my ash, do a light tamp, and relight to smoke all the way to the bottom. Sometimes I hear a crackling sound as I’m...

    Louisville Pipe Shops

Hey all - so I've got a few days off of work and am vising my sister who lives in Louisville. My best bud (and fellow piper) and I are planning to spend a couple of days doing some bourbon distillery tours around the area, but we'd also like to find a great pipe shop or tobacconist to visit and...

    Win, Lose and the Draw

Do pipers notice a difference between a 6mm and a 9mm filter when drawing on the smoke? I only have one pipe in my collection that has a 6mm filter (which I removed prior to smoking) but it seems like it's harder to get a draw from than my other non filter pipes.

    Proper Pipe Storage

First off, allow me to applaud the friendly and informative members of this wonderful forum. I'm relatively new to pipe smoking and have often found myself redirected to your site from a quick Google search about any number of questions a noob like me has to the world of pipe smoking. I always...
