    Pesaro and Mastro de Paja

I also think they are generally a good value. MdP mixes up their styles and combinations, much like with cigrmaster's example above, but their prices seem reasonable. I was very pleased to see that MdP was asked to do make the Pipe Club of London 2017 Pipe. Fantastic

    Pesaro and Mastro de Paja

Sorry everyone! I lost track of this thread and only just discovered today how to find all my former posts. The technique, which is perhaps only new to me: He lit up and then was constantly gently pressing down but in circles at the same time, and at the same time as he was drawing, so as to...

    The Pipe Shop, Edinburgh?

Business will take me to the UK later this year. Looks like The Pipe Shop is the most inviting and historic of any B&M in Edinburgh. Anyone have experience with them? Will be a bit of trouble for me to get to them so I wanted to know if the shop is worth the effort.

    Pipe References in Literature

May I self promote? It is not about pipe smoking but the protagonist is a pipe smoker. Even the imprint logo features a smoking platypus. The book is humorous. Well, that is to say, it is supposed to be humorous...

    Cellaring Flake Tobacco

Hold on you two! I've now got some jars stuffed, some as in the photo. We'll see how it plays out a year from now. Thanks for the advice and suggestions.

    Cellaring Flake Tobacco

Okay, decided it is time to open the Stonehaven I've had in the cellar for nearly two years...in the foil. Bought my wee jars, washed them clean, and now...how does one put flake in the jars? So I did it like the picture. Any reason this won't work?

    RIP Jerry Lewis

Lewis was the commencement speak at my graduation in Louisville (1998). He was no spring chicken then and no one knew what to expect. He started off very seriously, continued on for about ten minutes, and then unexpectedly burst into one of his imitable nasal voices as only he could do. Broke...

What Kinds of Pipes are These?

My opinion is that the pressed stuff is rubbish, not good for pipes, the lesser quality. There is plenty of meerschaum in Turkey to make pipes from the real stuff. One can tell the fake pressed stuff by weight: a real meerschaum is much lighter and, consequently, tends to smoke cooler. I'm...

    Tobacco and the Soul

Hard to believe this is now twenty years old. Perhaps, like some cellared tobacco, it has aged well. Enjoy. https://www.firstthings.com/article/1997/04/tobacco-and-the-soul

How do you manage smoking at Work/Duty place

I'm a professor. Smoking a pipe is mandatory.

Rattray's Limited Edition 'The Druids' Range PAD

Beautiful pipe. I always find stems that contrast with the shank/bowl dramatic. And the triskel on the stem just cinches the whole theme.

    Ashton Pipe Factory? Workshop?

I'd thought about Invicta. Does the gentleman who makes those pipes welcome visitors? Not heard much about folks going to see him. Actually, I've not read much about Invicta. Anyone out there have thoughts about their pipes?

    Ashton Pipe Factory? Workshop?

I've managed to wrangle a week across the pond this summer and was hoping to visit some pipemakers. Blakemar is a snap to get to, no worries there. But I cannot find anything about Ashton pipes. I've read up and know that Mr. Taylor passed away in 2009 but also learned that Mr. Craig is the...

    Invicta or Blakemar Visit?

Has anyone visited either the Invicta makers in Stanbridge of the Blakemar makers in Litchborough? They are a bit out of the way if one is in London, but not impossible. Just wondering if anyone went, if they recommend the trip and the visit.

    Kingsbridge aroma

Finally got my mitts on an order of Kingsbridge about a year ago. Stuffed it in my cellar. Today I bought some mason jars and cut into the bag. Wow. Was not expecting that smell! The tobacco was sprinkled with that white residue (sugars...uh, right?), and the aroma was like...a rich...

    JF Germain Visit?

No doubt, Customs would take a grim view of a bag full of Jersey's finest. I don't think I'd mind paying duty on the stuff. It would be worth it to 1) get to go and visit and see the factory and 2) have a goodly supply. I actually emailed them once to ask a question about product and they...

    JF Germain Visit?

It occurred to me the other day: since JF Germain seems to struggle to bring enough Stonehaven et al to market, what about going to visit them? Jersey isn't the easiest destination spot so I was hoping someone here could provide intel. Anyone been to visit the factory? Besides the (maybe)...

    Pipe Smoking Around the World

My frustration has been the LACK of goods in some other countries. (And I count as lack availability when you can get it but at twice the price of what it would cost in the States.) Was in Italy this past summer, got to visit the Mastro de Paja factory. (Headache to get to but worth it. Nice...
