    RIP Charlie Watts

What I loved about Charlie Watts' playing is that what he did was to support the song, the music, full stop. Never wanted to show off or stick out. True musicianship to sacrifice and do what has to be done to make the song the best it can be. I wish there was more of that these days. Hats off...

    The Chair.

Porch as (and is) sacred space.

Happy To See The Cat Is Safe...For Now Anyway.

To be fair, I am only talking about statistical probabilities, not certainty. There are always points that don't land on the curve. lol

Happy To See The Cat Is Safe...For Now Anyway.

Quite true, however, I detect a distinct lack of "fitness" in the survival category. This is only quibbling about when not whether, I reckon.

Happy To See The Cat Is Safe...For Now Anyway.

I used to believe that Kenosha was an interesting place to visit. I still do, but not to visit. And by the way, does anyone else feel like the Darwin awards is going to be overrun with entries this year, or am I just watching way too much "news?"

    Draw Resistance...Whats Right?

In my experience, if the tobacco is too loose (little draw) it tends to go out easily (not close enough to light adjacent bits of tobacco) and if its too tight (harder draw) it tends to go out often (not enough oxygen). So, if you can keep your pipe lit without a lot of relights, you are...

    Electric Vehicles

Classic capitalism. The market mostly responds to demand. And being risk averse, few want to be first and nobody wants to be last. So, it's going to be herky-jerky until the path to the $$ is abundantly clear. Until then the consumers will have to suffer the uncertainty, experimentation...

    Robo Calls

IIRC the more often you answer spam calls in person the more likely that your number will be sold to another spam outfit as a "live" number. So, I never pick up calls not on my list of contacts.

What Do You Use for a 5-Minute Smoking Break

Lots of great comments here - thanks all. Of course, 5 minutes was a bit of an exaggeration. I really meant 6. :) I have not often set a pipe aside and finished it later, but since I am a bit lazy, that sounds like a perfect solution. Good to hear that, at least for many of us, that...

    Strange Behaviors and Possible Explanations

Toll booth collector is one of the worst jobs around. My brother did that one summer. It must have killed a bunch of brain cells because he stopped complaining by the end of the gig. Here in the Chicago area, those jobs were handed out by politicians as a reward for political work. Some reward!

What Do You Use for a 5-Minute Smoking Break

Maybe because I have a touch of ADD, but I rarely smoke (in a typical sized pipe) an entire bowl of tobacco. So, when you only have time for a quick break, or sit there puffing away (I know this is contrary to the practice) thinking of other things to do, do you just fill halfway or use a small...

    Packing a Pipe...

This skill is just like that of my "learning how to bake bread" story. First, you should go by the "rules", and then you learn how to break the rules. Now, I pretty much cram the pipe with tobacco and off I go. Seems to work fine for me. Having said that, I love the fill 3X method and will...

    Can You Identify This Tool?

It's an old-fashioned tooth puller. Not a popular design by any measure. Which is why you don't too many of them around.....

    Summer Blends

Right now, in heavy rotation, is Scottish Mixture and Luxury Bullseye Flake. In the fall... that's tough. I don't really have a seasonal doctrine.

Is There a Tobacco you Seem to Like More Every Time you Smoke It?
