10 to Midnite and Classic Burley Kake

After reading Part Deux of the interview with Russ Ouellette, I'm wondering if anyone has tried the 10 to Midnite or Classic Burley Kake? Impressions?

    Duplex pipe loads

I've been loading my Gawith Flakes (Bracken, Balkan) and the S.G. Kendal Brown #4 Finest Kendal Twist with more of a fold and twist, and topping them with Plum cake as tinder. It helps me get a quick, even toast and seems to light those "heavier" flakes. I've also done a Navy Flake topped...

Four new pipes on the way...

Picked up four unsmoked Ropp pipes off ebay yesterday. Two are smaller, with curved (I hesitate to say "bent")stems, and two are Alpine-style of different sizes. They were listed as "collectibles" but I intend to use them in my eclectic rotation (whatever suites my mood or the time I have)...

    Duplex pipe loads

Smoked my latest pipe for the second time tonight...a large freehand Ben Wade off eBay. For the second pipe, I loaded the bottom half with Bracken Flake, and the top half with Balkan Flake. Anyone else tried this? It was heavenly... Bruce.

January 2010 - What are you smoking?

Phil, that sounds delicious. I'm thinking elk steaks and a baked spud with creamed spinach. Bruce

    Perique Tobacco Blends

Not much help this late, but just ordered more Luxury Bullseye Flake, the first tobacco I smoked after the years-long layoff, and a happy choice. Bruce.

January 2010 - What are you smoking?

Samuel Gawith Brown No. 4 Finest Kendal Twist. Makes me feel like a salty dog, it does. Just finished reading Conrad's Nigger of the Narcissus again. Typhoon is up next. Bruce.

    Pictures of my pipes

A large redwood limb came down near the house during yesterday's blow, and I cut some promising lengths from it. I sealed the ends with candle wax and put them up in the garage rafters. I know redwood has some fire resistance, but am unsure of it's suitability otherwise. I'll see to the cherry...

    Nasal Snuff

That's a bit more than I'd be inclined to try now, although I can't say as though I didn't act the same in the 60s!

How Many Times a day do you smoke?

Thanks for the retirement preview. In that vein, I decided to take today off, because the give a s--t factor was hovering near zero. Everyone knows I'm leaving, so nobody wants to "bother" me with additional projects. It doesn't get any better than that. People start asking "how many more...

    Pictures of my pipes

Here's the latest Ropp I picked up on eBay late last week. It's a Ropp Alpine, and smokes cool and fairly long, for a smaller pipe. I like that the bowl is positioned under my face, for ease of lighting and maximum aroma intake. I think I'll fire it up right now! Bruce.

How Many Times a day do you smoke?

I generally smoke two pipes, one after work (BTW, I'll be retiring at the end of June), and one after dinner, either while walking dog(s) or while out in the man cave/garage. Seems like that's all I can get in, for now.

    Nasal Snuff

Somewhere in a box in the garage, I have a tin of Dr. Rumney's mentholated snuff from the 1980s. I used it sparingly, just by squeezing the tin smartly and placing a hinge by a nostril. Then, a quick sniff up the other, before my head exploded. I believe that tin is a lifetime supply. It's...

Favorite Sherlock Holmes movie for pipe smokers?

Thanks, jrtaster, for the correction. I should have remembered the orange pips from reading "The Complete Sherlock Holmes" as a teen (my dad's copy--now gone). I believe I'll head to Amazon and find a copy of both the book and the film.

    New tobacco pipe smoker

I've never been a cigarette smoker, per se, because there's no aroma and I second dunendain's take. There's a certain sense of becoming part of a larger experience that's hard to quantify, beyond the thrill of finding the next unique pipe and satisfying tobacco. It's like John Mccain's...
