The Archaic Revival, Terrence McKenna, The Invisible Landscape Also by McKenna. As Tom Robbins said, it's enough to lift you out of your "cognitive "Kansas".

    Favorite Pipe Smoking Musician

For me, it's gotta be Albert King, the late bluesman with the left-handed Gibson "Flying V" who influenced many of my 60's favorite bands (like Cream) and was known to play in a cloud of pipe smoke (see below). I still get off on "Crosscut Saw" and "Red House" after all these years.

    Pipe Lighter Pros, Cons, Recommendations

My practical choice for outdoors (where I smoke) is a folding BIC butane grill/fireplace/candle lighter. They're about $4 at Safeway, and ratchet into three positions, including one that points close enough to straight down to make initial lights and relights a breeze. Actually, in a breeze...

    Adding cognac/whiskey to tobacco?

I'd be inclined to try a eye dropper with a bit of bourbon, and distibute the drops about--then mix and close it back up for a a while.

    How to use flakes

I prefer the fold and stuff, with a smaller layer of a ready-rubbed drier tobacco on top. Lights easy and burns to grey ash. Usually one pipe cleaner toward the bottom of the bowl, and does not flame out with judicious tamping. I tamp and flip the loose ash out of the bowl, and resume my...

    Favorite pastime while pipe smoking.

Whiskeymick, I also play mandolin (bluegrass, not Vivaldi), a Gibson F9, but I hesitate to call myself a musician. I can't see smoking a pipe and playing simultaneously--at least not without biting through a bit. I've been playing old Flatt and Scruggs for a year or so--since I started...

    Favorite pastime while pipe smoking.

In the "man cave" (garage) after work, I drink bourbon and beer, read some of the 20 or so periodicals I receive monthly, and listen to Dennis Miller, Michael Savage, and Mark Levin on AM radio. I have one large pipe before supper, then stoke a canadian or a cob for a two mile walk with my...

cortezattic: Here's the stem and shank detail from the Ben Wade #100 Freehand: It cost me $100.00 in an ebay "best offer" auction. No matter what it may be worth, I can't imagine ever parting with it.

February 2010 - What are you smoking?

Found a good deal on full pounds of Balkan Sasieni ($33.00) at: http://www.pipetobacco.com/page/pipet/PROD/WBBS Mine arrived yesterday in a large ziplock bag, and I put it into another until I can find some canning jars this weekend. It reminds me so much of Balkan Sobranie, which I enjoyed in...

Thanks, Kevin, for fixing that post. I did as you suggested the first two tries, but the post only showed "img" or something like that. I then used an alternative link that photobucket provides, and that worked. By then, there were two, as the first try had appeared as well. I'll do it as...

10 to Midnite and Classic Burley Kake

I'm glad it worked for you. I liked the idea of combining two tobaccos in one bowl, using mainly intuition to determine the pairing for flavor and aroma. Also, in a recent post in "Duplex Loads", I've described used an easier-lighting, but seemingly compatible tobacco as a small starter...
