    What are You Reading Now?

I am reading "Bilder im Kopf" (images in the head), the autobiography of Michael Ballhaus who was the most successful German cinematographer, especially known for his work with Martin Scorsese.

Germain's Special Latakia Flake - When Available Again?

Yep, that's why I'm so surprised because it was never a problem to get it here. Thanks for the link!!

Germain's Special Latakia Flake - When Available Again?

Happy to stir up some laughter - in fact I was serious because as I had some supply over the last years I was never in need to restock and unlike others it always used to be available in Germany (where I am located) without any trouble, just like the No 7. So yes, it's news to me that there is...

Germain's Special Latakia Flake - When Available Again?

Hi all, I just discovered that the Special Latakia Flake is out of stock at most shops. Anyone know what the problem is and if/when it will be back?

Help on Identifying a Pipes Maker

Yep, also on eBay. I would say with a mounted stem like that it doesn't make that much of a difference. but I've also seen regular stems that just didn't fit the shank

Help on Identifying a Pipes Maker

Hm, from the application (roebuck antlers?) I would agree on homebrewed..

Help on Identifying a Pipes Maker

Yep, I would also say Savinelli. The stem logo is defs Savinelli, and the "S over L" is probably the "crowned snake" that stands for Savinelli Handmade pipes (see here: Savinelli - Pipedia - https://pipedia.org/wiki/Savinelli#Handmade_Pipes )

    What's Your White Whale?

Hm. I am constantly chasing Murray's Erinmores., which are unobtainable at least for a reasonable price, and I am well aware that it's people like me who are responsible for that. I'm not sure if it's the hunt itself that gives me the thrill, rather it relieves me not to worry about running out...

    Lekker Smaakelijk: Troost Slices

Interesting - that would be the "original" Rotterdam version which I have never tried. I cannot imagine that the current version is a love-or-hate blend, as I did not notice any top flavor at all (unlikely that it has already disappeared in a sealed tin from 2018 when I purchased it). It's just...

    What's Your White Whale?

I've come across this one. I don't know how much aging contributed to the taste, but it's really an awesome blend. I still have one unopened tin left, but cannot yet think of a suitable occasion...

    Lekker Smaakelijk: Troost Slices

As I could not reply to the first Troost Slices thread, I will start a new one and publish this review here. I am often on the road in the Netherlands and on one of my trips I bought the most common tobacco there - the Troost Slices. It must be said that the Troost Slices are not "Dutch"...

***What Are You Smoking, Sept. 2020?

Troost Slices (from The Netherlands) in Stanwell 95. Great VaBur flake!

***What Are You Smoking, Sept. 2020?

Smoking some Synjeco Bad Nun in a Charatan. That is one fine blend - the smoothest nic-hit I've ever tried. I can really recommend it to smokers that like it strong.

Show Us Your De-Facto, *Best* Smoker

Nice! I am in Europe and I'm also still searching for N1 and N3. Bought the N2 (which is my preferred shape) brand new at Esterval when they came out and the N4 as Estate from Achim Frank's Pfeifenstudio. But the Danish Pipe Shop is a good idea, I'll have a look there.

HU Tobacco -- Need Advice On An Order

Funny story, the other way round works smoother than ever at the moment. Many German colleagues report that their last US orders were not only delivered quickly, but more often that not German customs waived the fees (albeit proper declaration) and applied the highly coveted green sticker.

Four New Members in My Collection

Thanks! About the pencil: When the stem sits too tight, it helps to apply graphite on the tenon. So you take an ordinary pencil and rub it on. Quite common technique among German pipe smokers.

Four New Members in My Collection

Yes they are really in good condition, quite easy to restore. Only challenge were the mouthpieces, I almost spent an entire pencil on making them easy-going. Previous owner obviously seperated the stem right after smoking... I agree with you on the Svendborgs, and must say that I also...

Four New Members in My Collection

EDIT: Fixed Capitalization in Title (See Rule 9) Recently I bought a lot of somewhat 15 pipes, and today I have refurbished the four ones that will stay with me (the rest will go to The Bay to cover the expenses). From left to right: Charatan Belvedere Parker Svendborg Stanwell Calabash...
